Louisa felt a pang in her heart at her husband’s response.

“What are you talking about? Why make such unnecessary assumptions?”

“It’s all about origin. What possibilities you are born with.”

Edward spoke cynically.

And you are the one who made it possible for me to grasp those slim chances. And I, in turn, have buried your possibilities.

However, Louisa thought differently.

“I won’t deny that. But continually dwelling on a past, or rather, a situation you’ve overcome, isn’t very wise.”

“Right. Everything you say is correct.”

Edward shrugged his shoulders, pulling a long face. Louisa, displeased with his reaction, said,

“Whatever people say, it’s worse not doing what you really want because of it. I’ve heard it so many times, I could recite it myself. It’s not worth fretting over. It’s a bigger problem if it stops you from doing what you need to. How about that?”

She mimicked his tone, causing him to smirk. Louisa then changed the subject.

“But how did you manage to get a box seat? It must not have been easy.”

“The nobility may disregard the name ‘Allen’ as much as they want, but it’s not easy for them to do so right to my face.”

Edward opened the door to the second-floor box seat.

Louisa felt a bit melancholic at her husband’s remark, taking it for granted. But as soon as they sat down, Edward cursed under his breath upon seeing someone across from them.

“Damn.”

“What’s wrong? Is something the matter?”

“It’s nothing.”

What he saw was Evan Winston.

‘What’s with that guy? Why is he sitting right across from us?’

He felt particularly irked, especially after the recent conversation about betrothals, thinking Evan was looking at his wife.

Sensing Edward’s unusual mood, Louisa followed his gaze and spotted Evan.

“…It’s Evan. You don’t need to worry about what he said today.”

Understanding why her husband was downcast, she emphasized again.

But what Edward was really concerned about was not the dismissive attitude, but Evan’s words and actions related to his wife.

Louisa tentatively broached topics she guessed might have upset him.

“The betrothal talk was truly nothing. I guess you figured as much.”

“I didn’t guess. Explain it to me.”

Edward glared across at Evan while speaking. Louisa sighed and laid out the whole story.

“Yes, there was talk of betrothal between our fathers, but that vanished as soon as our family fell. Real interaction ended that day.”

“…So that’s why you called it a joke.”

Edward nodded, understanding the context. But then it struck him as absurd, and he asked his wife,

“So our families were close enough to consider betrothal. Did you also know Lord Aberitt well?”

“That’s right. Uncle Aberitt… I mean, Lord Aberitt, before his passing, there were talks of marriage to that extent.”

With that revelation, Edward couldn’t hide his shocked expression.

‘A betrothal?’

He had thought they were close but had no idea they were engaged.
“You’re telling me that even with our family’s close ties to that household, you made those remarks? What were you planning to negotiate? After all, I was once their prospective daughter-in-law, right? What, were you going to say something like that?”

“Why would you say that?”

Louisa chided him gently at his sarcasm. She turned away from Edward, looking at the now darkened stage.

“I only thought of mentioning that if they feel even a bit sorry for my father, they should consider it.”

Evan, whom she had met at a party after some time, had apologized, saying he was too young then to be of any help. But that did not alleviate her resentment towards him for not showing direct condolences.

“If Aberitt had completely collapsed, it’d be different. Thanks to you, my brother is now even wealthier than before, known as Lord Aberitt. Considering their future, the Winstons can’t ignore either Aberitt or Allen.”

“It’s also my fault it collapsed.”

Louisa firmly replied to his comment.

“Ed, you and your father are different. You revived our family.”

“And Benjamin Allen was my father’s name.”

“Edward.”

Louisa called his name softly. Knowing it was a reprimand, Edward didn’t respond.

The lights in the auditorium began to dim. Seizing the moment, Edward said,

“It looks like it’s starting. Let’s enjoy the show.”

The performance began.

The opera’s story was an agonizing tale of love, far from Edward’s taste.

The renowned prima donna, Adelaide Page’s singing moved the audience to tears, including Louisa, who clenched her fists unknowingly during the lead’s monologue.

As the drama lulled after the monologue, Louisa whispered excitedly to Edward,

“Did you hear that? How can a song be so stirring?”

“Her voice is impressive. So powerful I thought the hall might come apart.”

“But wasn’t the expression remarkable too? Such emotion. How must that prima donna have loved to sing like that? Incredible.”

“Ah… right. I thought so too.”

“Both the singer and the music are amazing. Do you know who the composer is? It seems influenced by Rosh’s works. It’s exactly my taste.”

“Who was it again? We’ll check on our way out.”

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
