“Ah, Miss Ernst. Surely… it was Mr. Theodore who introduced us, right?”
Louisa recalled and asked.
“Yes, just Emily is fine. Are you joining the book club too?”
“A bit interested. I wanted to hear everyone’s stories.”
“Oh, really?”
Emily looked surprised, smiling warmly.
“We’re currently reading a work by Marie Diego. Perhaps Mrs. Bryde can explain it best.”
She turned to Evelyn Bryde, who nodded.
“Yes, but you’d be amazed by the insights of our members. Their perspectives are always enlightening, right?”
Mrs. Ackerman waved off the compliment as Emily chuckled and suggested,
“Let’s save book discussions for our meetings. How about we enjoy the party tonight?”
“Like discussing the striking earrings Miss Ernst is wearing tonight?”
Mrs. Ackerman joked. Emily laughed heartily.
“It took me three hours to choose these earrings! But what I want to talk about is Mrs. Allen’s outfit.”
She continued playfully,
“It’s like a textbook example of simplicity. Don’t you think?”
“Your style is always so understated. It teaches us the meaning of modesty.”
“True. We all dress similarly, but having your own style is also nice.”
They exchanged thoughts on Mrs. Ackerman and Louisa’s outfits.
Louisa smiled silently, accustomed to the flow of conversation.
Emily Ernst, with a voice full of kindness, suggested,
“Try a dress with more satin sometime. It would suit you, and I bet Mr. Allen would prefer it too.”
“Thank you. I’ll consider it.”
Louisa’s smile stiffened at the mention of her husband’s preferences.
Sensing the subtle shift, Evelyn swiftly changed the topic.
“Speaking of which, I heard the Duke of Portland might be returning soon.”
“That’s the talk,” the Duchess of Portland said nonchalantly.
“There’s talk of resolving the conflict in the area soon. That’s why the rumor is circulating.”
“That must be good news. If things are winding down, your husband will be returning safely.”
“I hope so.”
Evelyn clasped her hands dreamily.
“A husband at the front for his wife, how romantic.”
The Duchess of Portland, smiling softly, added,
“I always consider myself fortunate to have such a respectable husband.”
It was a testament to the strong bond between the couple. Louisa, too, smiled warmly.
“Duchess of Portland, I’d love to greet your husband when he returns. If you plan a welcome party, please invite me.”
“Of course, I will,” the Duchess of Portland cheerfully agreed.
Just then, Emily Ernst turned to Louisa and asked,
“Still, today you’ll at least be able to greet Mr. Allen, right? Since you’ll be meeting him at the book club, I’d like to say hello. You’ll do that for us, won’t you?”
Hearing this, Louisa’s smile faltered.
The Ernst family, generally on good terms with the Allen Company, was being unexpectedly forward with her.
‘Is the animosity towards Allen, not me?’
But why?
“Unfortunately, my husband had urgent matters and couldn’t attend today. Greetings will be difficult, I’m afraid.”
“Oh, I see. I didn’t expect that. I apologize.”
Emily covered her mouth, seemingly startled.
Evelyn, seemingly unable to stand it any longer, suddenly interjected.
“By the way, Lucy, have you greeted His Highness yet?”
“Not yet.”
“He’s been around a bit early today. I have something to tell him too, let’s go together.”
Evelyn grabbed Louisa’s hand. Louisa, apologetically looking at the ladies, said,
“I suddenly remembered an errand, so I must excuse myself. Sorry.”
The Duchess of Portland was the one to respond.
“Please convey my regards to His Highness. It was delightful today, Mrs. Bryde.”
“Yes, see you at the next book club.”
She quickly wrapped up the conversation and led Louisa away.
They nearly ran to the party hall. Evelyn looked around, then stopped suddenly.
“Lucy, I’m really sorry. I had no idea about her.”
Louisa waved it off.
“It’s okay. I didn’t expect Ernst either.”
She sighed deeply. Evelyn, noticing her mood, apologized again.
“Really sorry, Lucy.”
“It’s alright. But where is His Highness?”
“I don’t know. Maybe out for a cigar by now.”
At Evelyn’s bold remark, Louisa lost words for a moment, then chuckled softly.
That’s when a man with brown hair appeared behind them, speaking in a soft voice.
“Not yet time for a cigar, Mrs. Bryde.”
“Goodness, you startled me!”
Evelyn turned around in shock.
There stood a man with bright green eyes.
“Your Highness!”
“Regrettably, it’s a dinner jacket affair for His Majesty’s party. No cigars for me tonight.”
He was Anthony Lawrence Wincoat, the crown prince of Etrania from the reigning Wincoat royal family.
He shrugged.
“Looks like Mrs. Allen has had quite the battle tonight, eh?”
“Your Highness, such talk might cause misunderstandings.”
“Ha, why? It’s not incorrect.”
He laughed heartily.
“His Majesty will be out soon. I’ll convey Betty’s regards for you. Just listen to father’s speech and you can leave.”
“As much as that, how can I just leave? At least the basic courtesies to the princess and His Majesty―”
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!
This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
