“I’ll submit the patent application this way,” Curtis said, handing the final version of the document across the conference table to Edward.

“Alright. Proceed as quickly as possible before the information leaks elsewhere,” Edward responded. Creating something new was futile if the patent wasn’t secured. If someone else stole the idea and got their patent approved first, it became their property.

Thus, with the product complete, it was now a race against time to secure the patent.

“Understood. I won’t even consider contracts below the terms written here. Is that alright with you?” Curtis asked.

“Of course. If no one domestically is interested, we’ll go international.”

“The royal family might not like that.”

“Then they should make the right offer,” Edward replied.

Curtis admired his employer’s resolve. Edward truly lacked any sense of patriotism or sentimentality.

“Let’s conclude this discussion then,” Curtis suggested.

“Fine by me.”

“Let’s move on to the next item,” Curtis said, gathering the documents and slipping them into an envelope.

“How did the gift situation turn out?”

“The gift…” Edward’s expression hardened. Curtis glanced at him and commented, “I suspected it might fail, and it seems it did.”

“Keep it down,” Edward replied, lounging on the sofa.

“Oh, I forgot about giving a token to Miss Ernst. Pick something out and send it to her. Charge it to my account.”

“Understood. What price range should I consider?”

“She’s an acquaintance of yours. Handle it appropriately.”

“Alright.”

Curtis noted ‘moderately priced everyday jewelry’ in his notebook.

Edward, watching him write, added, “Write down one more thing.”

“Yes, go ahead.”

“The royal party. I plan to attend this time, so keep that in mind.”

“You’re planning to go with your wife. That’s a wise decision,” Curtis said, noting down ‘Attend King’s birthday celebration with wife.’

Curtis usually wasn’t so quick to affirm his words. Surprised by this, Edward asked, “What’s with that reaction?”

“You said you had no intention of divorcing, so naturally, going together is the best option,” Curtis replied.

Edward pondered over his words for a moment and then asked incredulously, “You knew?”

“Using ‘you’ in that way is a bit disrespectful.”

“Alright. So, you knew?”

“What exactly are you referring to?”

Edward was momentarily speechless. Curtis sighed and said, “Rumors of discord between Mr. and Mrs. Allen aren’t new.”

“What? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I assumed you were heading towards divorce,” Curtis replied.

Edward’s mouth snapped shut.

Indeed, Curtis had previously brought up asset division at the mere sight of him in the office.

“Everyone probably thinks the same. Edward Allen either has a mistress or a troubled marriage.”

“So you thought the latter?”
“Yes. I thought as soon as you succeeded, you’d calmly seek a new life. It’s much more efficient to find another woman who would appreciate you rather than being a sinner in front of your wife for a lifetime.”

“I’m going mad,” Edward said, covering his face with his hands.

With a deep sigh, he suddenly asked in disbelief, “What on earth did you think of me?”

“A cold-hearted businessman. Someone who could abandon the royal family and even his wife if they failed to recognize his worth.”

Edward had to admit that was partly true about the royal family. He irritably scratched his head.

“Alright, enough of that. Who exactly are these people indulging in such fantasies? Do you know?”

“Are you including me in that? You don’t need a list. Just assume everyone.”

At that assertive response, Edward felt a surge of irritation. He swallowed his anger and rephrased his question.

“Who are the ones spreading rumors and slandering Louisa? Can you make a list of them?”

“Hmm. Off the top of my head, there’s Westwood, Valeria, Sutherland, Lenekton… Ah, and Ackerman too.”

Edward waved his hand dismissively at the names.

“A lot, disgustingly many.”

“If you wish, I can inquire further and prepare a more detailed list for you.”

“Do that. No rush. I’ll probably see most of those faces at that damned party anyway.”

“Understood.”

Curtis jotted down ‘purge list’ in his notebook.

For the first time since moving to the capital, Edward began to look forward to a nobles’ party.

Louisa Allen preferred dark colors like navy or purple. It was one of the few things Edward knew about his wife’s tastes. When manufacturing her car, he had specifically instructed the technicians to paint it navy.

The deep navy car, from which his wife alighted holding an umbrella, looked so elegant.

Since then, whenever Edward chose something for Louisa, he always thought of navy first.

He spotted Louisa approaching from a distance.

Edward straightened up from leaning against her navy car. He was about to greet her, but then he saw the faces of the people following her.

“Valeria, the member of parliament?”

Normally busy running a company in his son’s name, what was he doing here today?

The faces following Valeria were familiar.

“Lenekton and Sutherland too.”

When the male lead is punished by carrying the female lead’s child and having periods like a woman

“I’ve given birth to two children for you, yet you still think about him.

Was I nothing but his substitute to you from beginning to end?”
