When the congress convenes, the members gather at the Valiant Palace, where the parliament building is located.

Surprisingly, the majority of the nobles who make up the Senate do not attend these sessions. Therefore, Louisa Allen, who faithfully attends every session, was definitely an anomaly among them.

“Lady Allen. You’ve arrived.”

“Chairman Bradford. It’s been a while since I’ve seen you.”

Louisa greeted him with a delighted expression.

James Bradford was an elderly man with white hair, currently serving as the Chairman of the Senate.

“I’ve heard about the accident. You must be quite exhausted.”

“It can’t be helped. I just hope everything wraps up well.”

Louisa smiled brightly as if nothing was wrong. Bradford picked up his monocle and chuckled.

“I’ve thought this for years, but it seems I don’t need to worry about you anymore, right?”

The sound of soft fabric rubbing against the lens filled the air.

“To think, when a young lady with chubby cheeks barely able to fill out her formal clothes first entered this chamber, what I thought.”

“Chubby cheeks? I wasn’t that young.”

“Don’t dismiss an old man’s memory, Lady Allen. Back then, you were a very young lady, with red cheeks and plump face.”

“My goodness. That’s the first time I’ve heard such a description of me.”

Louisa feigned a slightly annoyed face, to which Bradford responded with a hearty laugh.

“Anyway, seeing you today brings back memories. Philip can now rest in peace, I suppose.”

Bradford gazed at her with a look of pride and then bid farewell as he needed to return to his seat.

Philip Everett.

She repeated the name of her father, which now felt a bit unfamiliar.

Life sometimes brings a series of misfortunes that seem too much to bear. For her, it was the winter of her eighteenth year.

Initially, she just sat in front of her parents’ tombstone and wept endlessly, cursing the gods who had dealt her such a fate and those who betrayed them.

But when she realized there was a young man, just like herself, with no power to make decisions or solve problems, standing in front of her with a face that looked like he could die at any moment, she understood.

‘Ah, what’s different between that man and me now?’

Young Edward Allen knelt in front of the remaining two Everetts, bowing his head in apology.

“I will take responsibility for my father’s mistakes. I will do everything to turn things around, please just give me time.”

“Your sense of responsibility is admirable, Edward Allen. But the departed cannot return.”

“That is…”

Watching the young man unable to lift his head under her brother’s interrogation, Louisa thought.

At least this grief and resentment should not be directed at this man.

So she said,

“No, it’s okay. I’ll give you time.”

“…Louisa?”

“Brother. Let’s take everything we can from this man.”

“You mean to give him a chance?”

“If waiting for him to gain the ability means giving him a chance, then yes. Let’s give him that opportunity.”

“Louisa. Blindly trusting people is not a good habit. You know that.”

“I just think we are all victims of Benjamin Allen.”

“Right… I see.”

And so, Allen, burdened with his father’s debt, and the two remaining Everetts did their best to live on.
While reducing sleep and meals to the extreme, they juggled academics and labor.

Instead of the laboratory they wanted, they joined one that paid well.

They learned things they had never done before and worked as tutors in other houses.

And fortunately, or perhaps luckily, their efforts did not betray them.

As time passed, Edward Allen became a top engineer and businessman, and the Allen name became known nationwide.

Back then, they thought that such days would bring more happiness. At least, the girl who had fallen for a man living his life to the fullest thought so.

But that was naive. Naive to think they could truly love each other.

Louisa, unaware of the guilt weighing heavily on him, mistakenly believed that this man by her side shared her feelings.

She hid her cynical smile by taking a sip of water from her bottle.

The recently met Chairman Bradford, now relieved of his worries, laughed freely.

But could it really be true? She wasn’t sure.

Her father, Philip, always asked if she was happy, but now she couldn’t answer that question.

The quiet engine sound of a car powered by a magic stone echoed.

The latest car from Allen Corporation smoothly passed through the mansion’s gate and stopped at the porch. Johnson got out of the driver’s seat.

“We’ve arrived, ma’am.”

He opened the door of the back seat.

As soon as the door opened, the cool air rushed in. Louisa, wrapped in her shawl, stepped out of the car.

“Welcome back, ma’am!”

Rachel, who came to greet her, bowed in greeting.

It was particularly tiring today. The accident at Allen Corporation had triggered various checks to see if there were any illegal activities in the operation of the laboratory.

Because of that, the education-related agenda she wanted to discuss couldn’t be properly addressed.
