The dining table where the two sat was quieter than ever. Only the clinking of utensils filled the expansive space.

Louisa was the first to break the silence.

“Ed.”

Edward’s mechanical movements stopped. Louisa asked in her usual tone.

“How was your day?”

“Same as always.”

Edward tried to respond as he usually would. If he didn’t, he felt like the turmoil inside him would burst out toward her.

Same as always? No, it wasn’t. I couldn’t concentrate at all, and I ended up getting kicked out of my own company. Today was a real disaster!

Fortunately, his turmoil seemed well hidden. Louisa, unaware, replied.

“I see.”

Silence fell between them again.

Louisa stopped her slow progress with her meal.

“About what I said yesterday, let’s continue that conversation.”
Edward’s throat tightened, and he gripped his fork tightly.

He knew what was coming. He wanted to cover his ears and block it out.

“We should stop here, both of us. We’re just too incompatible.”

Despite expecting it, he couldn’t help the surge of emotion.

He tried to calm himself, but it didn’t work. Edward eventually spoke in a slightly agitated voice.

“What’s the reason? Why are you doing this all of a sudden? We were doing fine.”

“Maybe at one point, but not anymore.”

Her reference to the past was in the past tense. Realizing this, Edward asked,

“What? Are you saying you don’t love me anymore?”

“No, that’s not it.”

Louisa shook her head.

“I still love you. It’s just that we’ve changed, and with that change, it’s time for us to find our own paths.”

Louisa looked sad as she spoke.

Edward saw a tiny glimmer of hope there. At least Louisa didn’t hate or resent him. She was simply mourning the situation.

He blurted out,

“Alright. You might have felt a change. But then we should at least try, give it some time… Before things got to this point, you should have talked to me!”

He tried to be calm, but ended up shouting.

Louisa looked at him with tear-filled eyes. Edward was startled by her tears and shook his hand.

I didn’t mean to make you cry.

Louisa forced her eyes wide open, trying not to let the tears fall. She tried to speak calmly, slightly smiling.

“Ed. I’ve tried a lot. Really… a lot. Until I was broken into pieces.”

“What are you talking about?”

“That’s right. You don’t know. And I don’t understand you anymore. The faith that held me together is all broken now. That’s why.”

Louisa gave a pitiful smile. Tears flowed down her cheeks.

Edward’s face twisted in pain at the sight.

He watched her for a moment, then couldn’t bear it any longer and closed his eyes.

He said in a somber voice,

“Alright. I didn’t know until now. But now I do… Now I…”

“Ed.”

Louisa cut him off. Edward looked at her with wavering eyes.

“Not all marriages are based on love. I know that, and I’ve tried. Really. Countless times.”

Tears streamed down her face along the path of her tears.

“It’s not the first time. I’ve told you many times. I miss you. I’m worried. Please contact me. How’s your work? Anything wrong?”

Edward’s memory revived her voice.

Her shy whispers while hugging him tight, saying she missed him. Her tired face holding his hand late at night, expressing her worries. The recent plea for contact while blankly staring out the window…

He recalled these moments but couldn’t accept them.

“Is that an effort? That’s your reason?”

“…Yes, it is.”

“Over such things, you’ve caused this mess?”

Edward asked coldly.

He thought the reason for their separation, her unhappiness, wasn’t this. It couldn’t be this.

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?

[Reading Guide]

1. True divorce, chasing the wife to the crematorium, the female lead doesn’t look back, the male lead is Xie Yi.

2. The ex-husband did not cheat, he just realized too late and didn’t realize that he liked the female lead.
