“Huh….”

It was 3 p.m. The sky, now fully embracing spring, was unusually clear and bright. Cha Yeo Jung, seated in a rocking chair and staring out the window, suddenly felt her eyes waver before they settled again.

“Yeo Do Soon. Go call that girl over.”

Three hours had passed since Cha Yeo Jung gave the instruction to her secretary.

Just as the sun began to cast long shadows, a car pulled up swiftly in front of the mansion in Seongbuk-dong. Yeo Do Soon herself stepped out briskly from the driver’s seat.

As Do Soon entered the mansion and walked toward the main building, stepping carefully on the square-patterned stepping stones of varying sizes, the front door opened. She hadn’t heard any particular sound, so she initially assumed it was an automatic door—but it wasn’t.

“Madam has been waiting for you. Please come in.”

A young woman inside the entrance pushed the door wider and greeted Do Soon.

“Oh, yes.”

Looking around the grand reception room—more ostentatious than elegant—with a bewildered expression, Do Soon was soon led into the dining room.

The natural marble dining table, large enough for twenty, sparkled brilliantly under the chandelier’s glow from the high ceiling. Cha Yeo Jung sat right at the center of the far end. Do Soon took the seat opposite, where her secretary pulled out a chair for her, and found herself directly facing Yeo Jung’s silent, steady gaze.

“You called for me, Mother?”

“You don’t call me ‘auntie’ anymore?”

Ever since the formal meeting between the two families, Do Soon had switched to calling her “Mother,” and now she replied confidently.

“I’m going to marry the Representative soon, so ‘auntie’ wouldn’t be appropriate, would it?”
