Because of the unceasing snow, that man ended up spending the night under the same roof.

This single-story house had three rooms attached to the living room. Professor Eom occupied the master bedroom, and So Yeon used the room with the spacious terrace.

And that man…

It’s basic courtesy to introduce oneself first when meeting someone new. Yet last night, the man they’d let into the house gave off an eerie vibe and revealed nothing about himself. Sensing something odd, Eun Hyeok assigned him the Alpha Room—a separate room outside the front entrance, not one connected to the living room.

By now, the deep darkness had receded, and dawn was dimly brightening the eastern sky.

Was it because this was his last night in the village? Or because he’d let a stranger into the house? He didn’t know the exact reason, but a vague sense of unease gripped the back of his neck, keeping Eun Hyeok wide awake all night. At some point, he found himself standing bare-chested in the middle of the yard, wearing only a vest jacket, letting the heavy snow fall squarely upon him.

He’d been standing like that for roughly ten minutes.

Just then—

“Professor Eom Eun Hyeok.”

At the low voice calling his name, Eun Hyeok turned his gaze from the distance and looked behind him.

When had it happened? The window of the Alpha Room stood wide open, and through it, that man was standing there, peering out toward the yard.

“How do you know my name?”

He was certain he hadn’t introduced himself yesterday. Who on earth was this man who not only knew his name but also accurately knew his title as a professor? That was what Eom Eun Hyeok wanted to ask.

But Han Seung Jae showed no intention of revealing anything—not who he was nor who had sent him. Instead, he simply extended his pistol forward as though aiming directly at Eom Eun Hyeok’s heart and loosely closed one eye.

“You… you are…”
