“What on earth have you been doing to end up in this mess!”

Chairman Han stormed into the managing director’s office at Lian Motors and hurled a book straight at Han Seung Jae’s head without mercy.

Whoosh… thud!

But Han Seung Jae wasn’t the type to just take it lying down. He swiftly caught the flying book, scowled deeply, and grumbled under his breath.

“Ugh, seriously! Why do you keep doing this to me? It’s so annoying!”

His father barging in unannounced and making a scene wasn’t exactly rare. Though he was used to this kind of father, it still grated on him every time. Han Seung Jae, expression utterly indifferent, shifted from his desk chair to the sofa—as if telling him to say whatever he needed to and leave.

“Annoying? After the half-baked job you’ve done, do you really expect me not to lose my temper!”

Chairman Han, far from calming down, raised his voice, snatched the booklet back from his son, flipped it open to the page featuring Professor Eom’s academic paper, and shoved it right under Han Seung Jae’s nose. The sudden movement forced Han Seung Jae to jerk his head back, his brows furrowing sharply.

“Hey, watch it—you’re gonna poke my eye out. But seriously, what’s this about?”

“Don’t ask me—look at it closely yourself!”

Han Seung Jae took the book back, momentarily dazed by the unfamiliar medical terminology. But after a few seconds, he seemed to grasp the gist of it and twisted his lips sideways in disbelief.

“Wow… this old man really went ahead and…”

No wonder he’d been so quiet lately. From what Han Seung Jae had observed, Professor Eom had been going about his daily routine with no apparent oddities. He’d let his guard down—never imagining that brilliant mind would be used in such a way. It felt just like an unexpected punch landing squarely on his flank.

How could he have known that Eom Eun Hyeok’s paper had been published in a medical journal that only doctors or specialists would ever read? It was Hospital Director Yang Chan Su who’d informed Chairman Han—without that warning, he’d have remained utterly oblivious to the fire already burning right under his own feet.
