This Marriage Must End in Tragedy (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
“I’m sorry.”
“You’re lying. Aren’t you thinking something different inside?”
“No, Miss.”
Trishi’s eyebrows shot up. Yet Ansi, lowering her eyes, remained perfectly calm.
Trishi disliked that expression—not just because of today’s incident.
Rain always wore an inscrutable, blank look, yet as a mere maid, she somehow carried an air of dignity. It infuriated Trishi that someone so beneath her station dared to possess such poise.
Even now, after being reprimanded for her mistake, she acted as if she were indulgently humoring Trishi’s complaints.
“You’re making fun of me, aren’t you?”
Trishi’s eyes narrowed. Before an answer could come, she snatched up the plate of cookies and hurled it to the ground.
“……!”
Cookies scattered wildly across the sandy beach. Ansi’s eyes widened in dismay.
Seeing that, Trishi finally felt a flicker of satisfaction. She jerked her chin toward the ground and sat carelessly on the picnic blanket.
“Clean it up. Not a crumb should remain.”
“Miss.”
“Can’t you do it?”
Trishi plucked a grape and popped it into her mouth. As she chewed, her steady gaze upon Ansi carried a hint of frivolity.
Most importantly, she showed no sign whatsoever of retracting her command.
When told to clean, she had no choice but to obey.
Ansi finally reached her hand toward the sand.
The cookies had shattered upon impact. Moreover, their color closely matched the sand, making them visible only up close.
Kneeling down, she scanned the ground. Her hands and clothes became heavily coated with sand as she gathered the broken, scattered pieces. Occasionally, Trishi’s laughter rang out.
Suppressing the unnecessary emotions swirling within, Ansi focused solely on the task before her.
Just as she finished picking up every last cookie and stood up—
“……!”
Ansi’s gaze wavered.
Her eyes met those of a man walking toward them from afar.
His violet eyes were fixed precisely on this spot. The emotion hidden behind his tight lips was impossible to decipher.
Had he seen her just now?
Suddenly—truly, abruptly—Ansi found herself reflecting on what she’d just done.
Clearly, she had just crawled on the ground, painstakingly distinguishing sand from cookie fragments.
It was strange. Moments ago, it had felt perfectly ordinary—something she simply had to do, without judgment or thought—but now it filled her with sudden shame.
〈Was it hard on you?〉
His quiet voice seemed to echo in her ears.
An indescribable feeling surged within her—was it humiliation, or despair? Ansi’s face flushed red.
“…I’ve picked up all the cookies, Miss. If there’s nothing else you’d like me to do, may I take my leave now?”
Ansi wanted nothing more than to escape the spot immediately. Keeping her head bowed, she spoke calmly, trying her best not to let any emotion show.
But Trishi’s reply remained sharp and dismissive.
“You must stay until the picnic ends. How can you think of slacking off like this?”
“My shift has ended…”
“Do you dare defy me?”
Trishi shrieked. Ansi flinched and lifted her head.
Trishi sprang to her feet, her face contorted as if deeply insulted. She unleashed a barrage of cutting words in a raised voice.
“Your mother dies if she doesn’t take her medicine, right?”
“…….”
“Am I wrong?”
Trishi took a step closer, twisting her lips. Ansi’s blue eyes met hers. The fierce glint in those eyes made Trishi recoil for a split second.
Ansi took a short breath and answered.
“Please refrain from saying such things. I don’t wish to discuss my family’s private matters like this.”
“Why do you think it’s your private matter alone? It concerns me too—after all, who pays for your mother’s medicine?”
Ansi’s grip tightened on the cookie plate.
Trending
In her mind, she weighed what course of action would be best in this situation.
If she shot Cardian with a gun, both Ansi and Sophia might die. She had always been prepared for such an end.
But she refused to die uselessly.
If she were dismissed right now, could she find another job? Having worked as a maid for barely a year, without a letter of recommendation, it would be difficult—especially if she were known as someone who’d been thrown out for clashing with her mistress.
Trishi knew full well she held Ansi’s fate in her hands, which was why she acted so arrogantly.
No matter how humiliated or unfairly treated Ansi felt, Trishi could never imagine ending with her head crushed by this impudent, rude girl.
“Get down on your knees and beg.”
Thus, Ansi understood that the best choice right now was to apologize to the young lady before her. That knee—what use was it, if not to secure her future?
Yet why was this so difficult?
Perhaps because his enemy’s younger brother might be watching.
Among everyone else, she least wanted to appear cowardly in front of Orphe.
“With all due respect, Miss, I haven’t done anything requiring me to kneel or apologize.”
“What?”
Her thoughts hadn’t fully settled, yet her mouth had already spoken. But Ansi knew, sometimes instinct led to the most reasonable decision.
“Though I am your maid, I don’t deserve such humiliation—especially over my family, who don’t even work at House Jiden…”
Her words continued. Even in that moment, her senses remained alert to the approaching presence.
The sound of soft footsteps on sand drew nearer.
A familiar scent, carried by the warm breeze, wrapped around her.
And just as Trishi reached out to force Ansi down onto her knees—
“People say the southern way of speaking is straightforward.”
The man’s voice, tinged with faint amusement, washed over her like a wave. Despite knowing he had approached, Ansi felt her heart sink.
“Lord Damion…?”
Trishi’s voice grew small. Her words trembled at the end.
Damion gently blocked Trishi’s hand and lowered it smoothly. His movements were refined and courteous—his tone, equally so.
“I seem unable to distinguish between directness and aggression, so I’d like to ask you, my lady.”
Trishi felt as though she could answer any question posed in that gentle voice. Numbly nodding her head, she listened as Damion’s low voice settled over her.
“Get down on your knees and beg.”
His voice was icy. Contempt flickered in his cold, violet eyes.
Trishi’s body stiffened. Her eyes shimmered, then brimmed with tears. Watching her, Damion playfully crinkled his eyes and smiled.
“Is this directness—or aggression?”
[This is the timeline separator]House Jiden was several times busier than usual.
It was because the young master of Orphe had suddenly announced his intention to visit and stay for a short while.
While he strolled through the garden, servants bustled about their stations, preparing to receive their guest. They also took every opportunity to exchange opinions about the situation.
“They say Lord Orphe’s young master will stay for a meal—what’s going on?”
“Maybe he’s interested in our young lady? He’s barely waited since the last party before visiting again.”
“Could it be? It must be! How on earth did this happen…?”
“Shh, shh!”
“Rain, you tell us—you were just with them. Does the young master seem interested in Miss Trishi?”
The question turned toward Ansi. Curious eyes poured onto her. Silently wiping a plate, she shook her head.
“I wouldn’t know.”
Though she said that, Ansi felt uneasy inside.
What on earth was that man scheming?
Damion, who had appeared like a knight rescuing her, had promptly ignored her and walked off with Trishi. His previously subdued tone now sounded warm and gentle as he addressed the viscount’s young lady—so different from before, it felt like a delusion.
〈Sorry. I was joking, Rain. You know I didn’t really mean it. You’re free to leave now.〉
Trishi tossed out those words without a second thought, her attention entirely fixed on the man. She’d already forgotten her earlier tears, her cheeks flushed with excitement.
Ansi’s shift had ended for the day, and somehow, right before her eyes, that promise had collapsed. So she should simply head home now.
But Ansi couldn’t leave just yet.
What if that man revealed her true identity to Trishi?
And thinking about it—was he genuinely fond of her at all? It seemed absurd to believe he’d fallen in love just from a brief glance. He wasn’t the type to do something so foolish.

While doubts and worries circled endlessly in her mind, twilight gradually deepened. As the sky grew redder, Ansi’s anxiety swelled within her.
And on a night when the moon hung high—
Ansi, seated against the mansion wall lost in thought, finally rose to her feet.
She couldn’t wait any longer. She had to confront Damion de Orphe now.
On the second floor above was the guest room where Damion stayed. She picked up a stone, ready to throw it at his window—but quickly gave up and brushed her hands clean.
It might be riskier, but slipping upstairs unseen would be better. She took heavy steps forward.
“Rain.”
A large hand caught her arm just then.
“What exactly did Trishi say to you today?”
It was Labo Jiden, the viscount’s son. His face was twisted in anger as he stared at her. A strong smell of alcohol wafted from him as he stepped closer.

Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.

Trishi is terrible. I hope she gets put in her place. I also hope this viscount son isn’t a loser, but I don’t have high hopes.
