There was a small secret room connected to the study, but that place was no exception either.

Moreover, even that had already been stripped bare when the estate was confiscated. It wasn’t as if only she knew such a space existed in the mansion, and the study would naturally have been the first place searched.

But there was no rule saying there could only be one secret room.

Ansi began searching every room on the first floor.

The dining room, the drawing room, the guest rooms—all differed from how they once looked. The cold walls, empty drawers, and dusty window sills gave off an unsettling chill, making the place feel as unfamiliar as a stranger’s home.

Alone in that strange house, silently continuing her search, Ansi finally found something in an otherwise unremarkable empty room.

A tiny gap nestled between the bricks of the fireplace.

She slipped her finger into the crevice and felt something catch. Pushing it, she sensed a switch click into place, followed by a faint creaking sound from the other side.

It came from the direction of the display cabinet.

Ansi approached it and, gripping the cabinet with both hands, pulled. To her surprise, the heavy-looking piece of furniture slid open easily—apparently it had wheels underneath.

And there, beneath it, was a handle set into the floor.

“……!”

Grabbing the handle, she flung open the floor hatch, revealing a staircase leading down to a cellar.

Ansi slowly descended.

The revealed space was tiny—barely large enough for four or five people to lie down.
