Kaius calmly accepted Ludvian’s greeting and shook his hand plainly. Ariel, who had been staring intently at him, let out a faint sigh—his detached composure was utterly unlike the attitude one should have toward a demon who had tried to kill her.

Upon hearing that Ludvian Beloas had appeared, Kaius had many thoughts. If he killed him right now, wouldn’t all problems be neatly resolved? However, if the demons learned of it, the demon realm’s truce agreement would undoubtedly collapse. There was no guarantee he could eliminate Marquis Beloas quietly and thoroughly, and acting rashly would most likely give the demon realm a valid reason to invade the human realm once again.

Since an instant, sure-kill strike was impossible, doing nothing was better than acting recklessly—so for now, he had no choice but to wait and see.

Kaius leisurely approached his wife’s side. Ariel, seeming to have something to say, met his eyes and slightly parted her lips. She had just recalled Ludvian’s earlier words. Now that he had mentioned her parents, she felt obliged to hear him out.

“Kaius, could you let me speak with Ludvian alone for just a moment?”

At this unexpected request, Kaius let out a low, wry chuckle. Not only had she met with a demon without waiting for him, but now she wanted to be alone with him? His gaze, which had been fixed on Ariel, shifted toward Ludvian—who responded with an obvious, provoking smile—then returned to his wife with an affectionate look.

As if she were his own woman. As if every inch of her, from head to toe, belonged entirely to him.

Irritated yet again by Ludvian’s deliberately provocative behavior, Kaius gave another faint scoff and glanced over Ariel. She looked lovely, having carefully dressed up for their outing together. When he gently cupped her cheek, she seemed slightly startled but didn’t pull away. He also appreciated how attentively she matched his cues. Satisfied, Kaius lightly kissed her forehead.

“I’ll wait outside the door, my lady.”

His low voice was gentle. At the sight of Ludvian’s furious glare, a deep smile curved Kaius’s lips.

“Thank you.”
