“Kaius, I’ll go up first.”

Ariel rushed straight to Kaius’s bedroom as soon as she returned to Tris’s mansion. She needed to retrieve the letter she’d left for him.

After briefly embracing Anna, who teared up saying she knew Ariel would return safely, and giving short greetings to Sir Carsen, Mr. Hern, and Butler Raymond, who all offered worried words—she had no spare moment to notice their puzzled stares.

But the letter was gone.

Ariel was certain she’d placed it inside the tie cabinet in his dressing room. Wondering if perhaps her memory had failed her, she searched the area thoroughly—but it wasn’t there. Fearing she might run into Kaius if she lingered any longer, she quickly crossed over to her own bedroom through the connecting door.

“Why are you coming from there?”

Ariel nearly fainted from shock at the sudden sound of Kaius’s voice. Why on earth was he in her bedroom?

“…I, I just needed to look for something. Sorry for coming in without saying anything.”

In this highly suspicious situation, Kaius narrowed his eyes and studied Ariel carefully. Her cheeks flushed as if she’d been caught doing something wrong—what was all this about?

“But why did you go into my room?”

In response to her question, he held out a gift box neatly tied with a ribbon. Ariel took it and stared at it blankly for a long while. But soon she remembered she had something urgent to check, so she placed the box on the table.

“Open it.”

“Now?”

Kaius gave a slight nod of his chin and stood with his hands clasped behind his back, quietly watching her. Under his steady gaze, Ariel carefully opened the box. Inside were white gloves. Surprised by the unexpected gift, she picked them up, dazed.

“…Thank you. I was actually planning to buy a pair myself.”
