This Life, I Will Save The Duke (20 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 6
Perhaps due to losing a lot of blood, Kaius’s vision was blurry.
“Does it hurt a lot? Can’t you move?”
The incessant chattering of the woman made his head throb. Ignoring the annoying woman altogether, Kaius closed his heavy eyelids.
Seeing that Kaius was completely disregarding her presence and refusing to budge, Ariel’s stubbornness flared up. Conveniently, his eyes were closed, and the most severe-looking wound on his arm was exposed.
Right. If I heal his arm, that’ll serve as proof.
Ariel hiked up her dress hem and unwound the artifact wrapped around her thigh. To use her healing ability, she had to deactivate her transformation magic; the two abilities conflicted with each other, leaving her no choice. She figured she’d have enough time to put the artifact back on before he opened his eyes again after the healing.
In place of the ordinary-looking woman with dull gray hair and brown eyes now stood a stunningly beautiful woman radiating an aura of mystery.
Kneeling beside him as he leaned against the wall, she began healing his arm. A hazy, mist-like energy flowed from Ariel’s hands into his wound. Just as the healing neared completion, his eyes slowly began to open. Ariel quickly turned away and hastily put the artifact back on.
Her dazzling silver hair and luminous golden eyes, shining like moonlight, vanished in an instant. Ariel silently let out a relieved sigh and turned back toward him.
“How do you feel? Are you better now? I only healed your arm—the wound there looked the worst.”
“…….”
More startled than he’d expected, Kaius quietly stared at his own arm. It wasn’t a dream. He’d heard rumors of people born with supernatural abilities, but this was the first time he’d actually witnessed one.
And of all things, a healing ability.
“In this state, it’s hard to heal you properly. If you have more injuries, please lie down on the bed.”
Kaius, who had been silently staring at Ariel, slowly rose to his feet. Now that he’d confirmed her healing power, there was no longer any reason to hesitate.
As Kaius moved, Ariel supported his arm. Though momentarily surprised by the thick, solid feel of his arm, she showed no sign of it outwardly. His clothes were torn in multiple places as he lay on the bed—his chest, abdomen, arms, and thighs all looked so battered it was a wonder he could even move.
‘Just what kind of monster’s attack could cause injuries like this?’
When she tried to remove his upper garment, he reached out and grabbed her wrist.
“What are you doing?”
“For healing to work properly, your clothes need to come off.”
Ariel’s healing ability required direct skin contact. Kaius fixed her with a narrowed, searching gaze, as if trying to determine whether she was telling the truth. When he didn’t release her wrist, Ariel let out a small sigh.
“If you’re not going to accept treatment, I’ll leave. Please let go of my hand.”
“…….”
Now that she’d already proven her healing ability, it was no longer Ariel who was in a hurry—but him. As she quietly studied his face, an involuntary sigh of pity slipped out.
Seemingly well accustomed to pain, Kaius remained perfectly still, his expression completely unreadable. After scrutinizing Ariel’s face for a long moment, he finally released her wrist.
“You’ve made a good choice. You’ll never regret what happens today.”
Kaius sat up, removed his upper garments on his own, and lay back down again. His exposed body was astonishingly covered in scars—so densely packed that his impressively firm muscles barely registered in her mind.
Just what kind of life has this man lived…?
In my past life, he must have borne this same body. Since we never once shared a bed, this was the first time I’d ever seen his body—because neither of us ever desired the other.
“Close your eyes. Or better yet, pretend you’re just dozing off.”
“Why.”
“Because any more questions will only delay your treatment. Please just do as I say.”
After a brief glance at his already-healed arm, he slowly closed his eyes.
“I’ll need to touch your wounds directly, so don’t be startled. And absolutely do not open your eyes—if you do, I’ll stop the healing immediately.”
Ariel removed her artifact and began healing each injury by placing her hands directly on them one by one.
All the relatively fresh scars had been caused by her. Overcome with guilt, Ariel bit down hard on her lip. Her concentration wavered, causing her to press a bit too firmly—Kaius’s body flinched slightly.
“Ah… I’m sorry.”
Seeing him endure such obvious pain without even a single groan only deepened her guilt. All she could do was hasten the healing as quickly as possible.
As the pain gradually faded, Kaius, who had kept his eyes closed, grew increasingly astonished. The effect was as immediate as if he’d drunk a healing potion.
To heal so many wounds in such a short time…
Unconsciously, he opened his eyes—and through his blurry vision, he saw the woman before him transformed into someone vastly different from just moments ago. Blinking rapidly to clear his vision, he saw her appearance revert back to how it had been originally.
“Do you want me to stop healing?”
Ariel had been intently watching Kaius’s eyes—fearing he might catch a glimpse of her appearance she preferred to keep hidden. Thus, the instant she noticed his eyes opening, she swiftly turned and put the artifact back on.
“My apologies.”
Remembering her instruction not to open his eyes, Kaius closed them again. In his mind, the mysterious image of her he’d just glimpsed naturally resurfaced—but it must have been an illusion, likely caused by the unusually bright moonlight.
After all, no woman in the world would deliberately conceal such beauty.
Kaius decided to stop thinking about her appearance. More compelling than that was her healing ability—it stirred something within him, as it was precisely what he needed right now.
Who is this woman?
Five years on the battlefield had taught him to judge people quickly.
She was clearly an outsider, yet showed no surprise at the sight of a wounded man—only composure. Her movements carried a natural grace and elegance, as if ingrained in her since birth, revealing much about her upbringing.

Moreover,
she was present in the palace at such a late hour—and this was the North Palace, where the princess resided. Putting the pieces together, it was highly likely that the woman before him was the princess herself. Although he hadn’t heard about her possessing healing abilities, that was certainly something easy enough to keep hidden.
Could it be that his fiancée—the very woman he’d come to break off his engagement with—unexpectedly possessed healing powers? That revelation alone was significant enough to make him reconsider his decision.
Then again, confirmation was simple enough.
While Kaius pondered her identity, Ariel, having finished the healing, began to properly examine him.
Tall stature, solid build, striking features, and pale skin contrasting against his jet-black hair—how could such a handsome man have seemed so terrifying in her past life?
The Kaius who had died because of her in that life was now suffering again, all because of the demonic flowers she had once cultivated.
I’m truly sorry, Kaius.
Please endure just a little longer. I’ll definitely create an antidote to cure you completely. Perhaps driven by her remorse, Ariel’s hand unconsciously reached toward his face without her even realizing it. Just as her fingertips were about to brush his cheek, Kaius spoke.
“Seems like treatment’s done. Can I open my eyes now?”
Startled, Ariel quickly pulled her hand back and said,
“No, not yet. Just a moment longer.”
Once he got up, he’d surely start asking questions—especially about who I am.
But right now, she wasn’t in any condition for a prolonged conversation. After expending so much of her ability, she needed to replenish her vitality with water as soon as possible. Silently and quietly, Ariel slipped out of the annex and hurried back to her bedroom.
Not long after Ariel left the room, Kaius—now roughly dressed—stepped out as well, but she was already gone.
His plan to speak with her after the healing vanished before it even began. After scanning the area once more, Kaius let out a sigh tinged with disappointment.
Tomorrow, I’ll surely confirm her identity.
Kaius’s face remained as calm and still as the night itself as he headed back toward the Outer Palace.

Letiana was a country warm year-round.
“I’ll go in and come right back out. Anna, don’t forget what I asked—deliver the letter directly to Duke Elbaltan yourself. Absolutely no one else must read it. Not even you, Anna.”
She’d written a letter proposing a contract marriage and wanted Kaius to receive it before today’s welcoming ceremony, giving him some time to consider it.
The greenhouse’s glass was designed so sunlight passed through while preventing anyone outside from seeing in. Inside, Ariel appeared almost goddess-like in her ethereal beauty.
Without her artifact, her true form radiated an aura like morning mist rising from a lake—her life energy gradually enveloped the plants within the greenhouse.
Aside from Lilas and Zaphros, the greenhouse was filled with various plants used as perfume ingredients and culinary spices—peppercorn trees, basil, and more. The peppercorn trees had been brought from the Malabar territory, and they’d successfully replicated the exact growing conditions of their native environment.
The core of her spice business lay in neutralizing the gaminess of meat while maximizing its flavor. Research into the ideal blends and ratios of salt, pepper, basil, and other seasonings was ongoing to this day. The current product on the market, based on the perfected “golden ratio” discovered so far, was so exceptional that anyone who tasted steak seasoned with it could never go back to plain salted steak.
“Hmm… If he won’t marry me, should I get a job as a cook in the Duke’s household?”
She chuckled softly at her own absurd thought—Kaius was famously particular about his steak, which was how the idea popped into her head. Of course, Ludvian would never allow it.
As she neared the end of tending to the plants, Ariel turned pale—exhausted from overusing her ability. She walked over to the large adjacent pool, submerged herself in the cool water to recover, and closed her eyes.
Would Kaius accept her proposal…?
Once her dizziness faded, Ariel began gliding freely through the water like a mermaid.

When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did
“How dare you!”
“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?
“I will never accept that.”
“I will never let you return to him.”
“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”
“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”
“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!
At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.
Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.
The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.
Synopsis:
Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?
Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?
Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?
The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.
The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.
Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~

Rahzel Everlasting Chapter 8Finally! So, she changed her appearance because in her past life, Kaius found her looks annoying, but now, he saw her and thought she was beautiful. I feel like he didn’t actually dislike her back then, he was just jealous of other men looking at her.
It also breaks my heart that he rejected her. I wanted them to go to the festival together! And now only that jerk Ludvian is left TwT
Rahzel Everlasting Chapter 9Oh, I love Kaius. For a moment, thinking Ludvian was going to get his way, I thought Ariel was going to accept dancing with him, but she told him to get lost with style! Kaius is such a sunshine, I love this man. He’s already a goner for her, you can totally tell he is head over heels in love hahahaha
Rahzel Everlasting Chapter 10Finally they’re alone! I’d love for Ariel to be more honest with Kaius, but well, that would make the plot too easy. Even so, I do hope that at some point she tells him she’s being coerced by Ludvian.

Rahzel Everlasting
I’m surprised that she changes her appearance. I still don’t quite understand why she does something like that and why Kaius shouldn’t see it. She’s supposed to want to marry him, so ideally, he should know what her skills are and what she looks like. I guess it will be explained later on.
And I hope she manages to get rid of Ludvian. If she succeeds in marrying the duke, there will be nothing stopping her from saving him.
