By the time Kaius had finished preparing for bed, the night was deep.

He had secretly hoped that Ariel would be waiting for him in his bedroom again today, but she had easily disappointed that expectation. Pressing his temples, he headed toward the door leading to his wife’s room.

When the door opened without resistance, the corners of his mouth softened into a gentle curve. As he stepped inside, a soft fragrance and the warmth from the fireplace greeted him. Approaching Ariel’s bed by the dim glow of the firelight, Kaius let out a quiet chuckle.

It seemed the effect of the cake hadn’t lasted long enough to keep her awake—once again, she had fallen asleep without waiting for him.

His eyes, idly scanning the room, landed on letters resting on the tea table. Drawing closer, he saw they were letters whose wax seals hadn’t yet been applied.

With his fingertips, he gently pushed each envelope aside one by one. Leon von Retiana, Erina von Retiana. Was she writing separate letters to each of her parents? He chuckled softly and moved his fingers once more. That was when Kaius’s expression darkened—after checking the recipient of the last letter.

Edward Camelon.

Seeing that name clearly written on the envelope, he unconsciously picked it up. He hadn’t intended to read its contents; after all, exchanging messages was perfectly natural between business partners. Yet something about the feel of it between his fingers made him tilt his head in puzzlement. Without hesitation, Kaius opened the letter.

A bracelet?

What emerged was a bracelet woven from red thread. Kaius’s narrowed gaze returned to the table. Judging by the bulges in the other envelopes addressed to her parents, each likely contained one as well.

After placing the letter back where it belonged, Kaius’s eyes slowly drifted across the tabletop. Only a pen, sealing wax, and a ring engraved with the Retiana crest remained.

Letting out a faint laugh, Kaius sat on the edge of the bed and gently stroked his wife’s hair. While Edward Camelon might delight over that bracelet, he himself had this woman—and that was enough.

“Ariel.”

At the low murmur of his voice, Ariel stirred slightly before her eyes slowly opened. She blinked a few times, but her lids soon drifted shut again—she hadn’t slept properly for days, weighed down by anxiety.

“Ariel.”

After Being Cheated On, She Picked Up a Treasure (Female-dominant)

One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.

On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.

Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.

News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.

Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.

But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.

The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.

The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”

So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.

She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.

*

After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.

Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.

Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.

She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.

“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”
