Kaius’s low laughter seeped through the long morning rays of sunlight. Examining his outstretched fingers, he noticed the mark Ariel had left was already fading.

Of all things, she actually bit me.

Yesterday, Ariel had rushed at him to snatch the design book he’d been looking at, but failed—Kaius had pressed down firmly with just his fingertips, rendering the book immovable.

It was then that Ariel, her face flushed crimson and staring resolutely at him, shifted her gaze to his hand.

After glaring at Kaius’s hand for a long while, Ariel suddenly bit down hard on his finger. She must have used considerable force—Kaius let out a faint groan and instinctively released the book. Only then did Ariel let go of his finger, clutching the design book to her chest like a precious treasure as she dashed out onto the terrace. At the absurd sight, Kaius couldn’t help but let out a few dry chuckles.

Gazing at the bite mark, Kaius let out a soft laugh.

“Your Grace, I’ll be going in now.”

Butler Raymond’s voice pulled Kaius’s awareness back to reality. The door opened, and Raymond entered alongside Lemon.

“Raymond, prepare an itemized invoice for every expense incurred building the greenhouse—leave nothing out. As soon as possible, if you can.”

“Understood.”

For a brief moment, Raymond felt puzzled by the inexplicable order, but he asked no questions and promptly left the office.

“Lemon, stop by Tris’s vault and check whether there’s a deposit under either Ariel’s or Anna’s name. If there is, ensure it cannot be withdrawn for any reason without my explicit permission.”

Lemon pieced together the recent invoice request with this new command. If the greenhouse belonged to the mistress—and the invoice would go to her—wasn’t this counterproductive? He tilted his head in confusion.

“But won’t that put the mistress in quite a difficult position?”

At Kaius’s silent, piercing gaze, Lemon immediately clamped his mouth shut. No matter how often he saw it, that overwhelming presence always made him break out in cold sweat.
