Having left the mansion, Kaius slowed his pace just enough to ensure Ariel could catch up without difficulty. Hearing the light yet determined footsteps trailing behind him, he found himself unconsciously smiling.

As they entered the garden, it grew slightly darker.

“Come walk beside me.”

After a brief hesitation, Ariel moved to his side, and he resumed walking. Soon, a narrow path barely wide enough for two people appeared. Tall trees densely lined both sides.

Was there a path like this before?

Ariel, puzzled, paused in her steps.

“Where are we going?”

Without a word, Kaius took her hand and pulled her along. As she helplessly followed where he led, something resembling a greenhouse came into view. She blinked several times, wondering if it was a trick of her imagination, but it unmistakably was a greenhouse.

While Ariel’s eyes widened gradually, he opened the greenhouse door and flipped a switch, flooding the interior with bright light.

“Wow….”

With wide, round eyes, Ariel hurried inside, her lips spilling continuous exclamations of wonder. The greenhouse’s interior closely resembled the one in the royal palace—and even featured electric lights absent from her own greenhouse.

Closing the door behind him, Kaius watched Ariel as she began inspecting the greenhouse at a brisk pace, following slowly behind with relaxed steps.

Clutching her cloak and nightgown together, Ariel carefully walked along the neatly partitioned sections. She occasionally paused to nod thoughtfully or mutter softly to herself—seemingly gauging where to plant each type of plant, judging by the plant-like names she murmured. When she reached the changing room and the swimming pool, she even let out a soft chuckle.

To him, it was utterly incomprehensible how mere dirt and water could draw such an expression from her.

“Do you like it?”
