This Life, I Will Save The Duke (20 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 24
It was a clear day without a single cloud in the sky.
More than ten carriages and Imperial knights lined up neatly in front of the main gate of the Letiana Palace, escorting the carriages in an orderly fashion.
Ariel bid farewell to her parents. The Queen’s hand, which had been gently stroking Ariel’s hair, moved down to her cheek and wiped away her tears. Kaius, standing under the shade of a tree to escape the noon sun, quietly watched the scene.
Just as the wait began to feel long, King Leon stepped forward. It seemed they had agreed to part ways there—Ariel headed toward Anna and the Letiana Palace carriage.
Kaius also walked toward her. Seeing her eyes entirely red from crying, he felt utterly helpless, unsure of what to do. He’d never known how to comfort a weeping woman—nor had he ever needed to.
“Get in already.”
Kaius’ eyes were indifferent as he held open the carriage door.
As the carriages and horses set off, their noise shook the earth. Dust lingered in the air long after they had departed, refusing to settle.
***
It had been a week since Kaius and Ariel’s party left Letiana when they finally entered the city streets of Tris.
They rode in carriages, took modest breaks, slept in hotels or inns, and traveled tirelessly each day on the same monotonous schedule. Throughout that dull time, Kaius remained indifferent toward Ariel.
Thanks to that, Ariel grew considerably close to Lemon, her aide; Sir Carsen, the captain of the knights; and Mr. Hern, the ducal family’s personal physician. They welcomed her more warmly than she had expected.
Meanwhile, Kaius had faced another monster attack, and Ariel had silently treated his wounds without asking a single question.
“Wow… Lady Ariel, I guess the Empire really is something else.”
Anna, eyes wide with wonder, stretched her neck out the window, utterly absorbed in taking in the sights. The heart of Tris—famous as a commercial city—was astonishingly unlike any other world. Hotels, cafes, boutiques, specialized shops, and, matching them perfectly, elegant and lively people filled the streets.

The demon lord’s eyes were red with fury:
“This is all your doing! Today, I won’t rest until I kill you!”
Yu Wu rubbed her temples. Putting aside the taboo against bloodshed during pregnancy, wasn’t it this very man who willingly walked into her trap that day?!
