After sending Kaius away and lingering for a while longer, Ariel stepped out of the greenhouse to find Anna waiting for her. Since yesterday, Anna had been wearing knight’s attire instead of her dress, vowing to protect her from Ludvian until they departed for the empire. Anna looked quite impressive in her uniform, sword sheathed at her side.

“The Queen is urgently looking for you.”

Ariel had already guessed inwardly why her mother was calling for her. She quickly changed clothes and headed toward the West Palace, where her mother was staying.

“This is outrageous! Where in the world does a wedding happen so suddenly? I haven’t even had time to prepare myself emotionally, yet you’re asking me to let Ariel go.”

Standing before the bedroom door, Ariel heard her mother’s raised voice from inside. Just as she’d expected.

“I’m sorry, my Queen. But I’ve already finalized everything with the Duke, and we were bound to marry anyway. Please understand.”

“Can’t we postpone it even for a month? Your Majesty—no, Leon. The empire’s northern region is far too distant from here. If you can’t bring yourself to speak with the Duke, then I’ll go meet him myself.”

“My Queen, please calm down.”

Ariel hurriedly opened the door and rushed straight into her mother’s arms.

“Mother…”

“Ariel, you’ve come at just the right time. You must speak to your father as well—ask him to delay the wedding by a few months, at least.”
