Instead of returning to his office, Kaius stepped into the second-floor study, filled with the scent of old books. While searching for books related to national bankruptcy, his eyes caught sight of Ariel taking a morning stroll—along with the little dragon clinging closely beside her.

It wasn’t a dragon. More like a puppy.

After watching her from the window for a long while, Kaius set down his book and left the study. Exiting through the front door, he walked straight toward the spot where he’d just seen Ariel.

“Looking at the roses here really reminds me of the palace in Retiana. I might even ask to hold tonight’s dinner right here—just like we did in Retiana.”

Kaius strode toward the direction of Ariel’s voice, stopping on the opposite side of a stone wall. Where Ariel stood was a pathway where pink roses bloomed especially abundantly.

Above the two women holding lace-trimmed white parasols, the red and blue baby dragons fluttered through the sky, trailing behind them. For some unknown reason, Kaius hesitated to step forward immediately, silently watching her instead. Lemon, who had been following behind, nervously glanced back and forth between the two sides.

“I wish I could do that too, but the Duke might not like it. I’ve never once seen him take a meal in the garden.”

Ariel smiled faintly and gently caressed a plump rose with her small hand. Then, cradling the bloom in her palm, she brought it to her face to inhale its fragrance. Kaius’s gaze drifted to the lush rose blooming right before him.

“El!”

At Ariel’s deliberately annoyed voice, Kaius’s eyes returned to her. A wry smile tugged at his lips as he saw the rose petals sticking out comically from El’s mouth.

“Why are you eating the rose?”

It seemed El had snatched and taken a bite out of the very rose held in Ariel’s hand.

“Kyiing…”
