Her shoulders twitched—a motion noticeable even from a fair distance. Kaius let out a faint chuckle, his hand beginning to move lazily.

The soft rustle of fabric slipped into the stillness of the bedroom, already filled with the warmth of late spring sunlight.

Kaius’s gaze remained fixed on his wife’s turned back. His eyes traced slowly upward, starting from her slender waist.

Through the braided strands of her hair, her pale neck and shoulders appeared faintly flushed. Her face was surely burning red as well. Unaware, his Adam’s apple shifted slowly under the bright sunlight.

Did he really need to hold back?

Kaius pondered for a moment. The thought kept growing stronger—that even if Ariel entered the barrier, he could protect her himself.

“Are you dressed yet?”

Hearing the sounds of his trousers’ zipper rising and his belt fastening, Ariel asked calmly. When she turned her head slightly to steal a glance at him, Kaius chuckled.

She was evidently quite shy.

“You’ve seen my body more than once or twice—do you really need to act like this, my lady?”

“Well… I just can’t get used to it.”

Only when she finished fastening her cufflinks did Ariel finally turn around to face him directly. Her golden eyes, which had been flustered moments before, now held a clear, steady light.

“What brings you here so early?”

“I came to do my job.”
