Time passed swiftly.

The pale green hues gradually deepened into lush verdure, and the Duke’s garden brimmed with rosebuds—so many that a faint rose fragrance clung to the breeze.

Before Kaius crossed over to the bedroom, Ariel closed the terrace doors and lay down in bed earlier than usual to fall asleep.

Half-asleep, Ariel felt Kaius’s fingers gently stroking her hair. His cool scent reached her nose as his butterfly-soft kisses lingered longer than usual—on her forehead, the bridge of her nose, her cheeks, and finally her lips.

Unfortunately, Ariel woke up. Yet she kept her eyes shut, waiting for him to leave—but then came the soft rustle of fabric being removed.

…Why isn’t he leaving?

Her moment of hesitation didn’t last long. Soon, she felt his weight pressing down upon her. Startled, Ariel tried to twist and turn away, but both her hands were pinned above her on the bed.

Kaius noticed her trembling lashes between kisses and realized she was awake.

“Why are you avoiding me?”

Knowing there was no more point in pretending, Ariel reluctantly opened her eyes.

“I… I just think it’s still too soon to share a bed. Your Grace tends to… go on for so very long.”

Kaius let out a quiet chuckle at her tiny, blushing mumble and immediately captured her delicate lips. He knew exactly what she feared—but consideration was a luxury of the privileged. Tonight, he’d come specifically to satisfy his desires, even if it meant waking her. He hadn’t held his wife all spring long, and now spring was nearly gone.

This much patience had already been generous, and her body seemed sufficiently recovered—there was no more reason, or room, to wait. Without hesitation, Kaius indulged himself.

When their breaths finally steadied and the sweat began to cool, Kaius pulled Ariel—who had turned her back to him—into his arms.

“…Within a few days, there will be eight Aliunes. Please contact the Demon Prince.”
