“Hello, Brown Wolf?”

Even with Leana’s greeting, the enormous beast didn’t stir at all.

But it didn’t matter. She hadn’t come here to exchange greetings anyway.

She removed her apron and spread it on the floor at a certain distance from the Brown Wolf, then sat down comfortably on top of it.

Gazing at the Brown Wolf with pity, she murmured,

“You must be in so much pain.”

The fur of this massive beast was matted with dried blood. Half of its neck and head were missing, already blanketed in white maggots. At least the cool underground slowed the decay somewhat.

To anyone’s eyes, this was clearly just a dead animal rotting away.

Yet stakes had been driven into the ground around the beast, and thick iron chains tightly coiled around its entire body were fastened to those stakes.

And written on the Brown Wolf’s body, bound by those chains, were words in red ancient script.

The priests seemed to struggle every night to revive this creature—after all, each time, its howls would echo through the western tower.

But resurrecting the dead was forbidden.

Moreover, it was unbelievable that the Papal See itself was engaging in such acts.

“Why does the Papal See want to bring you back? What do they hope to gain?”

Leana quietly stared at the tattoo etched near the Brown Wolf’s chest.
