Jimmer was holding a green ribbon with a confused face. It was a rare gift for Adel, but it was covered in mud.
“Throw it away.”
“A few days ago, when you were at the palace, my lady seemed to be looking for this hair ribbon. Then, I overheard a conversation between you and His Majesty, and I misunderstood that you approached her because of the blank paper…”
“Misunderstanding? What part? It’s all true.”
Jimmer, who had tried to reconcile the two, barely held back his boiling anger.
Anyway, stubborn!
He had an almost supernatural intuition about other things, but he was so clueless about his feelings for Adel.
“I understand. You’re going to marry the princess then. It seems like the most reasonable choice.”
Christine’s face twisted in anger.
It was annoying enough that the emperor was pushing for a marriage with the princess, but now even Adel and Jimmer were on about the princess.
“Why is everyone so upset about the princess?”
“Do you really not know?”
“I’m asking because I don’t know.”
Jimmer sighed, looking troubled.
“It’s because the princess is pregnant.”
“The unmarried princess is pregnant?”
Christine was a bit taken aback, but also relieved. Now, even the emperor wouldn’t be able to force a relationship with the princess.
“The important thing right now doesn’t seem to be the princess’s marital status?”
“So?”
“Who the child belongs to is more important.”
“So who’s the child?”
Christine was a little curious.
Who exactly did the princess…
Jimmer whispered softly.
“The general.”
“Which general?”
Christine looked around at Jimmer’s piercing gaze as if someone else was there. But seeing no one else, he pointed to himself incredulously.
You don’t mean? He nodded.
He couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity.
“Jokes can be annoying too, Lieutenant.”
“I wish it was a joke. The rumor is already spreading in the palace.”
“Men have pride too. Be good to the princess.”
As Adel’s words came to mind, Christine wiped his face with frustration.
“Damn it… who in the world!”
He felt like chewing them up wouldn’t be enough.
“A few nights ago, on a rainy night, people saw you enter the princess’s bedroom. What’s going on with that?”
So that’s why the rumor started?
Christine grumbled quietly.
“Yes, I met the princess. But after that… I barely remember anything.”
“So it’s not entirely an impossible story…”
Facing Jimmer’s harsh eyes, he absentmindedly scraped the mud stuck to the ribbon with his nail.
“If I had embraced the princess that night, I would have woken up in her bed, not the forest.”
Christine, who couldn’t control his desire that day, seemed to have instinctively sought out the princess.
But when he came to his senses, he was in the palace forest. It meant that he needed energy to control his desire, so he hunted.
“So you killed the guard that night…”
The guard who was mauled to death by a beast that night.
But Christine couldn’t even remember if it was his doing.
He had never attacked or hunted people without reason. Even when he lost his sanity, his prey was always animals.
But the memory was vague, and there was a victim in the palace forest.
He couldn’t even be sure he didn’t hurt the guard.
Then, footsteps approached from a distance. Turning, he saw the emperor’s servant walking from the end of the corridor.
The servant stopped in front of Christine, offered a respectful greeting, and conveyed his message.
“The emperor is looking for you.”
As the servant left, Jimmer let out a sigh.
Certainly, here’s the translated passage:
“Because of the rumors with the princess, it must be a headache for you.”
“Not really.”
Christine looked nonchalant, then glared at Zimmer’s hand. The tightly clenched green ribbon string was annoying, so he snatched it away.
“You said to throw it away?”
“I didn’t throw it.”
[Star Icon][Star Icon][Star Icon]“Sob, sob!”
As Christine entered the emperor’s office, April was crouching on the floor, sobbing.
With the silk dress spread gloriously on the floor, the sight of a woman adorned with jewels in her fluttering blonde hair, crying, looked like a painting.
A picture of a woman crying beautifully, rather than sadly.
“Explain what happened.”
At Emperor Yan’s voice, Christine took his eyes off April, and asked indifferently, like a person who had nothing to do with her crying.
“What do I have to explain?”
Yan’s eyes twitched as he leaned on the armchair’s armrest. Christine’s question was utterly shameless.
“There are people who saw you going into the princess’s room every night.”
“What else did they see?”
“What?”
“I admit that my recent visit to the princess was rude. I will take the punishment for that part. But I have nothing to say if you inquire about anything else.”
Was it because his attitude and voice were so cold and chilly? April’s sobs grew louder.
“Sob, sob!”
Hearing the cry of his beloved daughter, Yan momentarily lost his reason.
Swoosh!
Kicking the armchair, he stood up and drew his sword, aiming it at Christine’s neck.
“You! How dare you think you can take advantage of my daughter and get away with it?”
“Aba mama! No!”
Startled, April grabbed Yan’s leg.
“Step back, April!”
“I won’t. If the Earl is wrong, I will die too!”
Her daughter’s firm stance distorted Yan’s face.
“Then tell me. What did the Earl do to you?”
April buried her face in her hands and sobbed even louder.
“All you need to do, Princess, is to retch once in front of people. And if anyone asks the truth, just cry. Then everyone will chatter as they please.”
“But the Earl knows the truth, right?”
“If the Earl was drunk and unconscious that day, he won’t remember. So, Princess, just cry as pitifully as you can, as if something happened.”
“What if that doesn’t work?”
“Then pretend to vomit and escape. You never said you were pregnant.”
“Won’t I just be the laughingstock then?”
“But you can get rid of her. Adel Oswald.”
April cried as pitifully as possible, just as Seira had instructed. Meanwhile, she assessed the atmosphere between Yan and Christine.
Yan was restless, his face reddening. He seemed to believe something had happened between them, as Seira had said.
But Christine was cool from the moment he entered the room. It was a chilly, goosebumpinducing stare, as if he saw right into April’s mind.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
