“Wipe yourself off, or you’ll catch a cold.”

Tanya quickly handed a handkerchief inside the carriage.

But Adel just sat there, lost in thought.

She had been like this ever since Tanya found her in the imperial garden, soaked in the sudden rain. Though drenched, she seemed like someone who didn’t even notice the rain falling.

“If you get sick, it will be even more trouble for me.”

With no other choice, Tanya wiped her off with her own hands.

Her hair, beautifully waved in the morning, was now wet and in a sorry state. Her expensive silk dress was soaked and sagging.

But what was most messed up was Adel’s face.

Her face had turned pale, her green eyes empty and darkened.

It was just like when she was in Oswaldga.

“What on earth… happened?”

Tanya carefully asked, holding Adel’s hand.

“Nothing happened.”

Adel forced a smile.

But they had been together for several years…

“Did Miss Seira do something wrong again?”

“No, I’m just a little tired.”

Adel leaned her head against the carriage window and closed her eyes, a silent request for no more words.

Tanya reluctantly covered Adel’s shoulders with a coat and watched her anxiously.

Jolt!

“Kyak!”

The carriage, which had been running for quite some time after leaving the city, suddenly stopped.

“What’s the matter? You almost hurt the young lady!”

Tanya yelled at the coachman.

“I’m sorry. Someone suddenly fell.”

Only then did Adel open her eyes and look outside.

Outside, a fierce rain was pouring, and someone was lying in the middle of the road. Startled, Adel hurriedly got out of the carriage, and Tanya also got out with an umbrella.

Upon closer inspection, the person who had fallen was a boy of about ten. His whole body was bruised and bloody.

“It’s not that he was hit by the carriage. He just ran into it and collapsed,” said the coachman, arguing his innocence, and Adel shouted back.

“Quickly get the child into the carriage! Tanya, where’s the nearest clinic?”

“It will take more than 30 minutes to get to the nearest one. And it’s past their closing time.”

Adel thought for a moment.

“Isn’t the Count of Castler’s house nearby?”

“Yes, if you turn down Elm Street, you’ll see it right away.”

The two had visited Mark’s house several times before with urgent patients. He was a veterinarian, but he also treated poor or critical people.

“Let’s go there.”

“Countess?”

Seeing Adel, Mark looked bewildered.

A guest appearing out of nowhere at dinner time. And his first guest, while he was wearing an apron, was Adel.

“I’m sorry to come without notice. We have an urgent patient.”

Seeing the bloody child in the coachman’s arms, Mark’s face tightened.

“Quickly, to the clinic!”

One side of Mark’s house was used as a clinic. Although a small space, it was filled with patient beds and all kinds of medicines and medical equipment.

“Is it very serious?”

Adel asked, worriedly looking at the child lying on the bed.

Mark, who had been examining the child, was somewhat relieved.

“Fortunately, aside from contusions, there are no serious injuries. There’s some bleeding from a torn arm, but it should be fine with proper suturing and treatment.”

“But why is he unconscious?”

“Probably from malnutrition.”

The child was clearly emaciated.

On closer inspection, Adel recognized the child. His father was a notorious drunkard, who ruthlessly beat his son to fetch alcohol. People in the neighborhood had stopped him several times. This time, he must have been beaten by his father again.

Thinking of the child fleeing in the rain, bleeding from his torn arm, Adel felt a surge of anger.

“Tanya, can you go back and meet the child’s father with Henry?”

“Yes?”

“Tell him the child will stay at our house for a while. And if he ever hurts the child again, I’ll find a way to throw him in jail. Henry will probably handle it well.”

Even though she was a powerless countess, the name of Oswaldga would still have some intimidation. She thought Henry could use it best.

“Yes, I understand!”

Tanya went back with the coachman.

Certainly! Here is the translated passage:

Adel finally noticed a sevenyearold boy peeking from behind the door. His brown curly hair and sparkling blue eyes were adorable.

It was Mark’s son, Jade.

“Hello, Jade. Come here.”

When Adel reached out her hand, Jade shyly shook his head.

“No, you mustn’t be rude. You must greet politely.”

Mark, who was treating a child, scolded him.

“No, I’m sorry, Jade. For coming so unexpectedly.”

Adel smiled kindly, and Jade too grinned and came out from behind the door.

“I know.”

“Yes, what?”

“The cookies that you made are delicious. Aunt Mia told me.”

“Oh, is that so? I’m good at making bread too.”

“Really? Soups and bean dishes too?”

“Yes.”

Then Jade looked intently at Mark with his clear blue eyes.

“Dad, can I ask her to do it?”

“No, Jade. It’s rude to the guest.”

“Ew, Dad’s cooking really tastes bad! It tastes like socks.”

The boy grimaced with his tongue out, and it was so cute.
