Adel woke up from sleep after an hour. Since she couldn’t sleep anymore, Mark sighed and lent her the book as promised.
However, she was held captive throughout the early evening due to Jade and Pauline persistently asking to play board games.
Only after the two kids fell asleep could she bring the book and visit the silver wolf.
During this time, the silver wolf remained motionless, asleep. Adel had to endure anxiety while watching its back rise and fall evenly with each breath.
“Chris, you’re late, aren’t you? But don’t be mad. I brought a gift. It’s a book about the Wolf Tribe.”
Holding the borrowed book from Mark, Adel comfortably sat down next to the silver wolf. Then, she began reading the book out loud, hoping that hearing her voice would wake it up sooner.
“…However, even this seemingly perfect creature has some fatal weaknesses. We must use these weaknesses to eliminate them…”
The author of this book argued that the Wolf Tribe is just a beast and cannot coexist with humans. Furthermore, the book presented ways to exterminate them.
“Mark was right. So, the injuries I got during the fight with Stone didn’t heal easily because of their special substance secreted from their fangs and claws. That’s why the population of these top predators didn’t increase exponentially due to the lack of natural enemies.”
Adel paused her reading for a moment and muttered.
“Chris, so if we happen to encounter the same tribe and fight again, avoid close combat. Just let me shoot with my pistol. No, I’ll do the shooting, so you avoid it. Got it? So, it means don’t secretly fight without telling me.”
She said it as if admonishing a child, then returned to reading the book.
“So, we must make them fight each other by provoking the tribe. This is a tactic to suppress enemies as enemies… This nasty!”
Adel shouted in anger, but there was still no response from him.
Looking at the silver wolf, who remained still, only breathing, she turned her gaze back to the book.
“Secondly, the Wolf Tribe forms a lifelong bond with a mate. They imprint on each other mainly through mating during the breeding season in winter. Occasionally, if a mate dies, the imprint may weaken after a long time. However, most of them form a lifelong bond with one mate and mate for reproduction.”
Adel smiled and looked mischievously at the silver wolf.
“So, the Wolf Tribe can never cheat on their mates, huh? Well, I’ve been worried for nothing until now.”
Then, she whispered teasingly into the ear of the silver wolf, which remained motionless, without a reaction.
“What should I do, Chris? I can cheat, but it seems impossible for you. Why, did you take medicine? Then get up quickly. If not, I might cheat.”
“…….”
However, he still showed no reaction.
“Tch, boring.”
Adel turned the pages of the book again.
“We can find another way to exterminate the Wolf Tribe here. It’s killing weak females and offspring. Naturally, their population would decrease… Ridiculous!”
Thud!
Adel finally closed the book she was reading.
Both methods of fighting against the Wolf Tribe seemed despicable and cunning.
“It makes me angry. Treating the Wolf Tribe like beasts while they are more brutal and cunning than beasts themselves. Shameful. If the Wolf Tribe was exterminated like this… Are you listening, Chris?”
“…….”
“It seems like you might know how your tribe disappeared. I’m angry too like this…”
Adel looked at the unconscious silver wolf for a moment and nudged it.
“Please wake up. If you’re wrong, your tribe will disappear just like this. So, gather your strength. It’s ridiculous to be defeated like this.”
He was always strong, never cornered in any crisis.
To Adel, he was a sturdy fortress, unwavering and unchanging in faith. If he collapsed, her world would crumble.
Adel hugged the silver wolf’s neck and buried her face in its soft fur.
After a while.
The moon, hidden in the clouds, gradually revealed itself. When moonlight entered through the clinic window, the dark interior became brightly lit.
Sah……
The wind, seeping in from somewhere, made the silver fur mysteriously ripple, and the neatly arranged eyelashes slowly moved.
The focus sharpened in the pale gray eyes revealed under the eyelids.
“Haaa……”
A faint sigh escaped from the silver wolf.
However, there was no movement as if it didn’t want to wake Adel, leaning against its body. It just gazed down with transparent pale gray eyes.
Although he had just woken up after a long sleep, Adel’s plump cheeks, which had been so lively a few days ago, were now sadly sagging. Carefully moving its head, the silver wolf gently licked Adel’s cheek.
What it could do now was only this…
“Uuh… Chris… st…”
“…….”
Adel, who was mumbling like a sleep-talker, slowly opened her eyes. Startled, she quickly sat up when she met the gentle gaze of the pale gray eyes.
“Chris!”
“…….”
“You really woke up. I thought it was a dream. I’m so relieved, really…”
Tears streamed down Adel’s eyes as she wiped them away quickly and smiled.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
