Gulp!

Zimmer hurriedly flung open the restaurant door and rushed in.

He briefly bowed to Adel, then quickly reported to Christine in a soft whisper, careful that she should not hear what he was saying. His face noticeably hardened as he listened to the report.

“I’m sorry. I’ll have to get up first.”

He quickly rose from his chair. Zimmer swiftly gathered his coat and rapier hung on the wall. It was clear that something unusual had happened.

“I’m fine, so don’t worry about me and go on.”

Though curious about what had happened, Adel decided not to ask until he told her. There would be many secrets he couldn’t speak of, given the nature of his work.

“And you, don’t ever go outside.”

Christine sternly said to Adel, who followed him to the restaurant door.

“You got it. You mustn’t leave here!”

He urged again.

“Here?”

“Yes. Stay here until I send someone.”

After sincerely admonishing her, Christine dashed out of the door. Zimmer and several bodyguards hurriedly followed him.

‘What on earth is happening…’

Adel paced nervously by the window. Then she saw people gathering near the lakeside.

Though she couldn’t see clearly from a distance, it seemed like bodyguards in black uniforms were surrounding the area, blocking people’s access.

‘Did some accident happen?’

A moment later, Tanya and several maids came in to clear the table.

“Tanya, what happened outside?”

“I’m not sure. It seems like a corpse has been found in the lake.”

“A drowned corpse…”

Adel murmured as she looked out the window again, and a maid cautiously answered.

“That’s… it was a corpse that was torn to death by a beast.”

Adel turned around with a frozen expression.

“Can you tell me in detail?”

The maid grimaced as if the thought alone was horrifying, and lowered her voice.

“That’s… it was torn to death by a beast. Similar to the guard who died recently…”

Then another maid cautiously chimed in.

“I heard it too, a little while ago. It was just like the corpse killed by the silver wolf.”

Before she could finish, Adel ran out frantically.

(This is a time separator.)

“Make sure no one approaches within twenty paces.”

“Yes, Captain!”

“Quickly collect the body so that it’s not seen by people and hand it over to the coroner.”

“Yes, Captain!”

“And split into groups of five to check the surroundings…”

Christine, who was managing the situation at the scene of the incident and issuing commands smoothly, suddenly halted.

“Damn…”

Far away, Adel was running toward him with a pale face. Henry and Tanya were chasing her, but they couldn’t catch her.

The bodyguards quickly stopped her.

“You cannot proceed, please turn back.”

Adel seemed ready to fight them physically.

“Get out of the way! Please!”

“By the Captain’s order!”

As they grabbed her arms to pull her away, Adel struggled frantically.

“Please, please, I need to verify something! Please let me!”

In this cold weather, she was wearing a thin dress without a coat. She seemed to have fallen while running, as the fluttering chiffon lace was torn, and her blue, frozen arms were scratched and bleeding.

“Everyone back away.”

At Christine’s command, the bodyguards immediately released Adel and stepped back.

“Chris, is it true? That corpse, was it the silver wolf’s doing?”

Adel approached him with tearful eyes.

“No. It’s just the work of a wild beast.”

Christine took off his coat and wrapped it around her, but Adel pushed him away and tried to get closer to the gruesome corpse.

“Let me see. I’ll know if I see.”

He stood in front of her like a wall.

“Go back, Adel. There’s no such thing as a silver wolf.”

His face, hiding his emotions, was as cold as ice.

But Adel also stood firm, refusing to retreat.

“That’s why I’ll see for myself! I’ll know if I see. Whether it’s his doing or not. I’ve seen the horrible image of my mother countless times in my dreams. So if I see, I’ll…”

That’s when it happened. The canvas covering the body was blown away by the wind. Then the brutally torn corpse was exposed to everyone’s eyes.

“……!”
At that moment, Adel was gasping for breath like a person being strangled, unable to breathe. With a pale, sickly face, she couldn’t take her eyes off the corpse and stumbled towards it like a person under a spell.

“What are you doing, cover it up quickly!”

Upon Jimmer’s sharp command, the guards quickly picked up the bloodstained cloth and covered it.

But Adel had already been etched with that horrific scene in her mind.

“Adel, don’t come, stay there!”

“My God! What kind of beast could do this……”

Blood completely stained the pure white snow field in a dark red…

“Mo, mo… mother……? Mother……”

Chasing after the body being carried away, Adel called out to her mother with a trembling voice.

“Adel, snap out of it!”

Christine grabbed her arm, but she shook off his hand and muttered in a daze.

“Look, Chris. Mother is there. Mother… I have to go to mother… Mother! Mother!”

She kept calling out for her mother without stopping to breathe.

Like a child who had lost her mother.
