His heart pounded.
Henry glanced in the direction of Isabella, then turned his head toward the source of the voice.
Brick.
Was there any chance that Henry wouldn’t know that name?
He had dedicated his entire life to the imperial palace.
He knew the past of every high noble close to the imperial family.
Henry held his breath.
“So, if you go to Hiloshain now, does it open up a way for you to live?”
“I don’t know. Still, it’s probably better than here. It’s just developing now. Moreover, I heard that Rothera has returned.”
“…Rothera?”
“As you know, when Rothera ruled Hiloshain, there was no better territory. Despite being a wasteland, he managed to accumulate a lot of money. The specialty products from Hiloshain couldn’t be sold anywhere nearby. Anyway, I’m thinking of going to Hiloshain with my family.”
“Will that temporary lord accept you? This person called Brick. I don’t know where he came from, but they say he’s very picky. Isn’t Hiloshain under control now?”
“…If not, I’ll just lie down.”
Henry exhaled heavily.
Brick.
Brixton. How could he not know that name!
It was the name of Rothera’s eldest son.
There was a connection with Henry from the time of the commoner.
Henry smirked.
Even if the name was concealed with the nickname Brick, Henry couldn’t not know.
Brick, Rothera, Hiloshain, Renisha!
A little thought revealed the answer.
Brixton and Hailin had returned.
Henry seemed to know why he had to suffer.
Henry was a spy.
He was someone who could always convey news of Hiloshain to the imperial palace.
Those who didn’t want Henry to know about Brixton and Hailin would probably act like this.
Still, they couldn’t kill Henry!
Lexis was behind Henry, after all.
Ultimately, as an alternative, they might have blinded Henry’s eyes…
“Hahaha…”
Henry let out a laugh.
There was a boiling sensation of intense heat.
Now that he knew all the secrets, venom had settled in Henry’s chest.
Being tossed around in this damn political fight also had its limits.
Henry’s gaze turned toward the sleeping child.
Isabella was sleeping peacefully with a mild expression.
It was possible to harm the child in this situation.
His urge for violence surged.
However, committing such an act might not withstand the fierce pursuit from Hiloshain.
Hiloshain and Brixton were definitely not the type to miss their goals.
Whenever a hunting competition was held, weren’t they always the ones to win first place?
Henry tightly closed his eyes and then opened them.
For now, there was no other choice. Henry…
Henry bowed his head towards Isabella.
The distinctive scent of milk from the child tickled Henry’s nose.
“Wait, Isabella. I will definitely throw your family into a pit. Then, crying will be useless.”
Henry slowly rose from his seat.
Henry raised his hand, and the servant approached Henry’s table.
“The child fell asleep first. I was going to use the restroom and then leave…”
Henry awkwardly smiled.
The servant noticed that Henry’s eyes weren’t focused.
It was because he couldn’t see.
“It seems like we need a messenger.”
“I will take care of that.”
Henry waited silently.
There was nothing he could do with his blurry vision.
Not long after the servant left, a messenger child arrived.
With a large physique as if using strength was a common occurrence, the silhouette revealed a tall child.
Henry called the child over to the restroom once he arrived.
Leaning against the sink, Henry pulled out a note he had prepared in advance from his pocket.
“Get a stagecoach to this place.”
“What?”
Henry placed a heavy money pouch in the child’s palm.
“I have to go far, you see. If you keep this matter secret, I’ll give you another pouch.”
Henry shook another pouch full of money.
The messenger child rolled his eyes.
Outside, for some reason, knights were abundant.
In such a situation, such a task was unusual.
Although there seemed to be a sense of a dark shadow, they couldn’t resist the temptation of money.
With that money, they could comfortably eat and live for a month.
The messenger child bowed his head.
“Wait here. I’ll be back soon.”
They would do anything for money.
Even if they couldn’t get a comfortable and luxurious carriage, they could probably get a cheap stagecoach.
“Where did the old man who was here go?”
Mateo asked the servant.
Isabella had her head buried and was asleep, and the seat across was empty.
“He went to the restroom. He’ll be back soon.”
“Thank you.”
Mateo nodded and took a seat where Henry had been sitting.
Fortunately, Isabella seemed unharmed.
It was nerve-wracking because she was bowing her head.
Mateo adjusted the child’s posture for comfort and leaned back in the chair.
As soon as he heard that Henry and Isabella had gone out, he followed them.
He was in the middle of inspecting weapons made in the blacksmith.
Mateo had seen a lot while traveling around the continent.
His insight couldn’t help but be outstanding.
Especially the weapons made in Hiloshain were of good quality, but what they were made of was still unknown.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
