Now, walking and moving caused her no strain. She had regained her strength to the point that there was no difference from before the accident, and she could easily finish her meals.

Though it might seem like an uneventful continuation of ordinary days, Vivian’s worries only deepened with each passing day.

‘Charlotte… isn’t coming to see me.’

Beneath the warm sunlight, Vivian let out a deep sigh.

She remembered clearly everything that had happened just before the accident. Perhaps it would have been better if she had lost her memory instead. She couldn’t even recall the feeling of that terrifying moment—when Charlotte’s eyes, staring down silently, filled her with dread.

After waking from her deep slumber post-accident, Vivian deliberately never mentioned Charlotte to anyone. Nor did anyone ask her about Charlotte. Nobody even brought Charlotte up.

At the very least, Vivian had hoped Charlotte would come to her first—offer an explanation, apologize, and tell her everything that had happened since the accident directly from her own lips.

Yet, despite the long passage of time, Charlotte had taken no action whatsoever.

Confronting Charlotte directly about such trivial details would certainly be awkward. Still, it wasn’t something that could simply be brushed aside as if nothing had happened between them. No matter that Charlotte had left due to marriage—Vivian didn’t believe their friendship was something so easily dismissed.

Finally resolved, Vivian quietly left her room. The moment she stepped out, she bumped straight into a servant.

Though Vivian had clearly regained her health, Edwin apparently still found her unsatisfactory. Especially after the physician added a note advising some continued caution, she was sentenced to what felt like imprisonment without bars.

“Young lady, the evening air is cold. Please go back inside.”

“…No, I’m actually going to see the Duke.”

“I’ll go inform His Grace and return shortly. Please wait inside, young lady.”

“No, no, it’s fine. I’ll go myself. He certainly won’t be overly pleased, but he won’t be furious either. I’ll explain everything properly. I’ll be back soon.”
