Sophie, seething with anger, took Vivian to the bathroom, filled the tub with water, stripped her clothes off, and while washing her, cursed and damned those who had tormented Vivian the entire time.

Mocking Vivian, who had become a maid, was something that happened frequently even in front of Sophie. This led to frequent arguments, and there was even a time when she got into a physical fight with another servant over a corsage that the master of the mansion had tried to trade for money.

The onlookers lamented why she bothered making enemies unnecessarily.

They added that a future like Vivian Ebelline’s current one had already been foreseen due to her family’s downfall, and no reversal could be expected. So they advised her to stop siding with Ebelline and just get along well with everyone instead.

When she came from the capital to Rodinia and began serving Ebelline, she didn’t think much of it. She was simply happy. She savored the proud feeling that came from finally being recognized by the master’s family and from her salary increase.

Ebelline was indeed a pitiful woman as the rumors said, and even when the master who had taken in such a pitiful woman ordered her to report on Ebelline’s every move, she felt no faint guilt.

But the more time she spent with her, the more she was assimilated into Vivian’s pure and clear nature—who didn’t know how to harm others—and her endlessly warm and kind heart, and her own emotions began to follow suit.

When Vivian smiled awkwardly, saying she couldn’t buy a better corsage because of her circumstances, Sophie truly thought it would be fine to devote her life to this person.

To remove the foul smell clinging to Vivian, Sophie dumped every bath salt she had into the tub. It would look better to suffocate from flower scent than from the smell of shit, after all.

After rinsing Vivian and filling the tub with clean water again, Sophie added more bath salts. She sniffed the water, now thick with fragrance, and nodded in satisfaction. Placing the still-dazed Vivian into the tub, Sophie let out a low sigh as she looked at her whitened face.

“Miss. Are you okay?”

Vivian nodded blankly.

“Still, this is a hundred, a thousand times better for me. No matter what, you’re a noble, Miss—how could you do such rough work… Honestly, when I first heard the news about you, I hated the Duke so much.”

Lost in thought, Vivian pulled her legs up and buried her face in them. The delicate young lady, utterly exhausted, didn’t even have the strength left to cry. Sophie gently poured fragrant water little by little over her now-clean golden hair.

Sophie didn’t try to say anything more. She quietly waited in the sweet floral scent for Vivian’s heart to recover.
