Mayer clung desperately to Edwin’s leg. Edwin looked down at Mayer’s face, smeared with sweat and blood, his icy blue eyes utterly devoid of emotion.

No anger, no hatred—and even though his long-sought goal was right before him, there was not even a trace of joy.

“You’ll bring me Ebelline alive.”

“Y-yes, yes! Then… then swear it! You want this, don’t you? To take revenge on Ebelline!”

When Edwin showed no reaction, Mayer realized it: Edwin didn’t desire revenge on Ebelline—he didn’t even care.

Mayer’s face instantly turned ashen. Terrified, he jerked backward, scrambling to put distance between himself and Edwin. He screamed with all his might, and his soldiers came running from down the corridor.

But the incoming shell blast shattered not only the walls—it shattered Mayer’s hope as well.

Mayer, huddled with his arms around his head, slowly lifted his gaze through the dust and debris raining down around him.

The world was filled with hazy dust. The soldiers who had been rushing toward him had vanished along with the collapsed floor. Below, agonized screams filled the air.

A cold gun barrel pressed against Mayer’s temple.

Mayer, frozen in place, turned his head toward Edwin.

Even through the swirling dust, Edwin’s piercing blue eyes gleamed with icy clarity.
