Then, the maid with reddish-brown hair who introduced herself as Joan approached with a smile.

“It’s alright. We’ll just prepare things for you and wait outside the screen.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Miss Isabel does it that way too.”

“Lady Isabel… I mean, my sister does too?”

“Yes.”

Encouraged by those words, Rosette took a step forward.

“Okay.”

Thanks to this, Rosette was able to finish her bath smoothly by herself. She was a bit uncomfortable knowing that three maids were standing beyond the screen, but that was something she’d have to get used to now that she was here.

After bathing alone like that, the maids helped her change clothes. The three maids fussed over Rosette after she changed.

“My goodness, you look so pretty, miss.”

“Like an angel.”

“How can you be so adorable?”

Rosette thought they were exaggerating to get on her good side.

‘I know I’m not pretty.’

Elisha, Duke Dallas’s beloved youngest daughter, always said this when looking at Rosette:

— I’ve never seen anyone as ugly as you. How can you be so ugly? Even your hair is a dull pink color.

Elisha put Rosette down every day, and Rosette was almost brainwashed by those words. As a natural result, Rosette thought of herself as hideous.

“Look in the mirror. See how cute you are.”

“No. I don’t want to look.”

Rosette desperately covered her face and avoided the mirror. Joan, who had tried to show her a hand mirror, was inwardly surprised by the strong refusal but didn’t show it as she put the mirror away.

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“Then shall we go have breakfast? Everyone will be waiting.”

“Okay.”

Rosette headed to the dining room on the first floor, guided by the kind Joan. As Joan had said, other children were already in the dining room.

Rosette’s cheeks flushed hot, thinking she was late. The one fortunate thing was that Duke Adrien hadn’t arrived yet.

“I’m sorry.”

She hurriedly sat down in the chair a servant pulled out for her. Lucas was the first to respond.

“No! We just came early.”

He rubbed his stomach with an exaggerated gesture, unlike a child from a noble family.

“I came in a hurry because I was starving after doing morning training hard.”

“Lucas.”

Isabel scolded her brother.

“You’re being frivolous.”

Despite seeming like he should be offended, Lucas just smiled. Rosette thought he was like a dog she often saw at the orphanage. A white dog that would wag its tail and follow the children no matter what happened.

“Pfft.”

When she laughed without realizing it at that thought, the gazes around her turned to her. Rosette belatedly noticed the gazes directed at her and managed her expression.

“It’s nothing.”

“I don’t know what you were thinking, but it’s nice to see you smile.”

Daniel, sitting across from Rosette, smiled.

“Do you like your room?”

“Yes, very much!”

She was about to speak excitedly, but feeling Isabel’s gaze, she lowered her voice.

“I like it very much.”

“I’m glad.”

Just then, Duke Adrien entered the dining room. As soon as he sat at the head of the table, the appetizers began to be served.

‘Ah…’

Rosette bit her lip slightly when she saw the salad placed in front of her.

‘It’s shrimp.’

She was allergic to shrimp. It wasn’t so severe that it threatened her life by making her unable to breathe, but she did have a reaction that made her whole body itchy whenever she ate it.

She first learned about her shrimp allergy when she went to the Dallas ducal family. The orphanage where Rosette had been was far from the sea, and it was difficult to see seafood.

‘I was scolded if I tried not to eat shrimp.’

Duke Dallas forced Rosette to eat shrimp even though he knew she was allergic to it. Would she be scolded here too if she didn’t eat the shrimp?

Misinterpreting Rosette’s hesitation, Lucas, sitting diagonally across from her, intervened.

“Is it difficult because you haven’t learned dining etiquette yet? Just use the forks from the outside in! It’s not hard at all!”

He probably thought Rosette was wondering which of the many forks she should use.

‘I already know all the dining etiquette…’

She had learned it at the Dallas ducal family, getting hit on the back of her hand with a rod every time she made a mistake. Thanks to that, she could now pride herself on being able to dine as perfectly as any noble.

Still, as Rosette hesitated, Isabel, sitting next to her, picked up the salad fork and placed it in Rosette’s right hand.

“Didn’t you hear? Use this one.”

“Ah, yes.”

If I don’t eat it, I’ll be scolded for being picky. I don’t want to be scolded. I definitely don’t want to be kicked out.

Rosette gripped the fork so tightly that her already pale hand turned even whiter, and she stabbed a shrimp and put it in her mouth.

She chewed the shrimp hard with her molars. It tasted good. In fact, Rosette didn’t dislike the taste of shrimp; she was just allergic to it.

When Rosette cleaned her plate of the salad, including the shrimp, Daniel across from her praised her.

“You eat your vegetables well, how lovely.”

Rosette’s cheeks flushed slightly as she put the last remaining shrimp in her mouth without hesitation.

‘I did well eating it.’

…she praised herself.

The rest of the meal continued without any problems. Fortunately, it was thanks to the allergic reaction not appearing immediately.

It was a bit unusual that meat was served from breakfast, probably because everyone had come after training.

As Rosette blinked in surprise at the steak larger than her palm, Isabel once again put a knife and fork in her hand.

“What are you just looking at? Hurry up and eat.”

“What? Y-yes, yes.”

When Rosette tried to cut the meat with the child-sized cutlery, this time Daniel took her plate.

“I’ll cut it for you.”

Then he cut the steak into pieces small enough to fit easily into a small mouth and returned the plate. Rosette swallowed her saliva as she looked at the pink flesh of the meat.

“Eat quickly!”

Lucas urged. He seemed curious about Rosette’s reaction to eating the steak.

Rosette stabbed the steak with a resolute face and brought it to her mouth. When she bit down with her molars, the juices the meat had been holding flowed out. The meat melted softly even without chewing many times.

Even though she had spent over ten years at the Dallas ducal residence, she had never eaten a steak this tender and delicious. The meat she had eaten was always tough and hard.

‘I was discriminated against.’

A belated realization washed over her. No wonder she couldn’t relate when Elisha praised the chef, saying the steak melted in her mouth.

Whether because of the late upset or the impact of the meat, Rosette shed a small tear. Lucas burst out laughing.

“Is it that delicious?”

“Uh, yes.”

Rosette continued to stab and eat the steak.

However, the happiness didn’t last long. Around the time dessert was served, the allergic reaction started to appear. At first, her arms started to itch, and gradually her throat began to feel itchy.

Rosette scratched her arms vigorously under the table. Judging by the stinging in her arms, it seemed she had scratched herself raw.

“What’s wrong?”

Duke Adrien, who keenly noticed her change, asked. Rosette shook her head vigorously.

“It’s nothing.”

“Then why aren’t you eating your dessert? It’s our chef’s best custard pudding!”

Lucas tilted his head.

“Well…”

If she raised her arm to eat dessert, she might reveal the red, blotchy rash marks. If that happened, they would find out about her shrimp allergy.

Just then, Duke Adrien approached with a stern face. He knelt on one knee beside Rosette and carefully took her arm.

“…!”

Seeing the hives and red scratches on her arm, the duke spoke quietly to Sebastian, who was waiting on the side.

“Call the family doctor right away.”

* * *

The Adrien family’s doctor, whose hair was as gray as Sebastian’s, examined Rosette. Duke Adrien was watching the doctor and Rosette from a step back.

The Adrien family’s three siblings had already gone to their rooms, sensing their father’s apparent anger.

Rosette hung her head, feeling like a criminal. Even so, she felt the duke’s burning gaze on the top of her head.

“It seems to be an allergy.”

The doctor concluded after the examination.

“An allergy?”

“Yes. I heard shrimp was served as an appetizer today. Shrimp allergies are more common in the empire than one might think. However, it seems you didn’t know about the allergy until now because you were in an environment where it was difficult to encounter seafood.”

“…”

“If you take allergy medication, the hives should subside quickly. However, the scratches on your arms might leave scars.”

“I see. You may go now.”

“Yes.”

Even after the doctor left, Duke Adrien’s stern face showed no signs of softening. Rosette hesitantly took the allergy medication he handed her.

Only after Rosette had drunk a full glass of water did the duke speak.

“I’m sorry.”

“…?”

“It was my oversight. I should have checked for any allergies beforehand.”

Rosette couldn’t understand why Duke Adrien was apologizing. Duke Dallas had said it was her fault for having allergies.

Elisha, the beloved youngest daughter of the Dallas family, had even sneered, “It’s because your birth is lowly that you can’t eat such fine food. If you had eaten it from childhood like me, you wouldn’t have developed something like an allergy.”

If anyone should apologize, it should be her.

So why was Duke Adrien apologizing?

She wanted to ask. But in the end, what Rosette uttered was something completely different.

“I’m sorry.”

Duke Adrien finally softened his expression. He knelt on one knee in front of Rosette, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, and took her hand.

“You have nothing to be sorry for.”

“No. It’s because I have a flaw… I shouldn’t have had something like an allergy…”

Duke Adrien keenly noticed something strange about Rosette’s words. The child not only accepted the fact of having an allergy calmly but also naturally considered it a flaw.

If that’s the case…

“You already knew you had an allergy.”

“…”

“Who told you it was bad?”

“…”

“Did the orphanage director say that?”

Rosette shook her head vigorously.

“No.”

“Then who said it?”

“…”

When Rosette clamped her mouth shut like a clam, the duke changed his question.

“Why did you eat it knowing you had an allergy?”

“…”

“Rosette.”

“…”

“Rosette Adrien.”

Rosette sensed that she was being scolded now. However, she couldn’t figure out the reason why.

She had eaten the shrimp despite knowing she would be sick to avoid being scolded, but she ended up being scolded anyway? It wasn’t unfair, but it was scary.

Duke Dallas was a magician, but Duke Adrien was a knight. There was a difference in physique, and even more so in strength. How much would it hurt if someone like him hit her?

Rosette mumbled with her hands clasped together.

“…cause.”

“Hm?”

“Because being picky is bad.”

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
