“What’s wrong?”
“It’s dirty… I mean, heavy.”
Duke Dallas had scolded her to climb into the carriage by herself when he first took her, not happy about sharing his carriage but forced to because of onlookers.
Daniel, who was sitting next to Rosette back then, chuckled – not mockingly, but with a refreshing smile.
“You heavy? You need to eat a lot. John will like that. Ah, John’s our chef. He loves fattening up the kids.”
“Pudgy…”
“Unfortunately, us Adrian siblings only grow muscles… But you’ll be fun to fatten up.”
Rosette puffed her cheeks.
“Are you teasing me?”
“Oops, caught?”

Daniel laughed out loud now. After glancing at him briefly, Rosette suddenly realized his personality was slightly different from what she knew.
‘Surprisingly lively.’
Was it because of his physical disability in the past? Daniel had been more aloof and slightly cynical, keeping a distance from people.
But the Daniel before her was simply lively and innocent.
She wanted to protect this side of him too.
And…
‘It’s not bad.’
This kind of attention didn’t feel bad. Rosette’s cheeks turned slightly red, unnoticed by Duke Adrian and Daniel, who smiled warmly at her.
The carriage rode on and finally arrived at the Adrian mansion in the capital. Again, somewhat dazedly, Rosette was carried out by Duke Adrian and lost her words at the sight before her.
‘So many people.’

When she was adopted by the Dallas house, there was no one to welcome her. Naturally, there wasn’t a formal introduction to the staff either.
She had thought it would be the same this time. But here were all these people, staring right at her.
Rosette flinched and clutched Duke Adrian’s arm tightly. He patted her back reassuringly.
“Let me introduce you. This is Rosette Adrian, who will now be a member of our Adrian family.”
Remembering her etiquette from her previous life, Rosette bowed her head.
“Please take care of me.”
Technically, she should have used informal language with the servants, but that was something she could gradually change.
Fortunately, the Duke spared her from more detailed greetings and dismissed the servants.
But there was still something left to do. The Duke had mentioned introducing her to the family.
Rosette followed him to the splendid living room. Inside were the Duke, Daniel, and two other children, a girl and a boy who looked a couple of years older than Rosette.
“This is Isabelle, and this is Lucas. They will be your sister and brother.”

Isabelle, with her arms crossed, looked at her blankly, while Lucas gaped at her with wide eyes.
Rosette swallowed hard.
She didn’t socialize much in her previous life but knew about these two. Isabelle and Lucas, though not Sword Masters, were skilled enough to work in the royal knights.
Lucas was known to be friendly and liked people. On the other hand, Isabelle was somewhat prickly and shied away from contact, partly due to discrimination she faced as a woman handling a sword.
But judging from their looks, their inherent personalities seemed quite haughty.
Before Rosette could introduce herself, Isabelle spoke first.
“She’s younger than I thought.”
Rosette mumbled.
“I’m not young.”
Duke Adrian defended her.
“Yes, she’s not young. She’s seven years old.”
“What?” Isabelle raised an eyebrow haughtily and circled around Rosette, looking displeased.
“She looks six at most, and is a whole head shorter than me.”
Rosette, although smaller than her peers, was also overshadowed by Isabelle’s good development. Not just her, but all Adrian family members had large frames.
Rosette clenched her fists.
“I’m not small. You’re just tall, Isabelle.”
“What?”
Isabelle looked incredulously, scrunching her brows. Daniel, standing beside Rosette, covered his mouth and trembled with suppressed laughter.
Duke Adrian bowed his head, swallowing a laugh. Only the youngest, Lucas, who until yesterday was the baby of the family, laughed heartily.
“Right! Sister is tall!”

“Quiet, Lucas.”
Isabelle snapped, making Lucas cover his mouth.
“So why did you bring her here?”
“Isabelle.”
Duke Adrian tried to calm her, but she persisted.
“We already have capable knights. And three children. Why adopt another?”
“Rosette is a mage, not a swordsman.”
“A mage?”
Lucas’s eyes widened in surprise. Rosette found his reaction quite likable. Among the three, she felt she would become friends with him first.
But Isabelle wasn’t satisfied with just that explanation. She questioned further, with her arms still crossed.

“Then why not just sponsor her?”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
