People suddenly grabbed Soo Yeon and clung to her.

“Madam, please save us!”

What on earth were they talking about?

As Soo Yeon stood bewildered, the president of the market merchants’ association stepped forward to explain on everyone’s behalf.

Directly across from Soo Yeon’s curry shop, a large supermarket was launching a surprise opening, throwing the entire market into chaos. They’d found out it was being set up by the Grand Hotel and would become the largest in the area.

When a big supermarket opens nearby, a small traditional market like theirs stood no chance of survival. So yesterday, all the market vendors collectively closed their shops and rushed to the hotel, staging an all-day sit-in protest until the hotel finally sent out a secretary on behalf of the chairman.

[“Shouldn’t you have consulted with the surrounding businesses before deciding to open a supermarket?”]

When they protested, that’s exactly what the secretary reportedly replied:

[“Our chairman’s wife runs a restaurant right across from there, and she found the supermarket too far away, so she decided to open one herself. She says you all surely understand why she can no longer go to the market yourself, and she asks for your understanding.”]

The market vendors clung desperately to Soo Yeon.

“If that supermarket moves in, we’ll all starve to death. Please save us, okay?”

Among them were even the vegetable stall owners who had previously chased Soo Yeon away, saying they’d never sell to her.

“We were too harsh, only listening to what Min Woo’s Mother told us. We’re truly sorry.”

“That woman’s always been good at making up stories out of nothing—we were just foolish enough to believe her.”

“If you want, Madam, we’ll drag Min Woo’s Mother here and make her kneel before you, okay?”
