“What should I do?”

A low, tempting whisper slipped into Si Hyeon’s ear.

“…I’ve gone and become interested in you now.”

Si Hyeon gritted her teeth. Instead of getting off at the first floor, she closed the elevator doors again and pressed the button for the rooftop.

“Wait a minute, please look at me.”

Si Hyeon dragged Tae Ha straight up to the rooftop. For some reason, Tae Ha obediently followed her.

After confirming no one else was around, Si Hyeon spoke.

“You shouldn’t treat me like this.”

“What exactly shouldn’t I do?”

“I already told you—we’re not that kind of people to each other!”

Si Hyeon desperately tried to explain.

“I know you’re doing this because you can’t remember right now, but once your memories come back and you recall acting this way toward me, you’ll probably wish you were dead. So let’s just stop here—don’t regret it bitterly later.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Tae Ha sighed.

“What exactly is this ‘relationship’ between us supposed to be?”

After a brief hesitation, Si Hyeon finally spoke.

“…Back then, you were in second grade of elementary school, and I was a first-year high school student.”

The distant memory began resurfacing as if it had happened just yesterday.

Because her birthday was early in the year, Si Hyeon had entered school a year ahead of schedule, making her sixteen and a first-year high school student this year.

It was only the beginning of the semester, yet expenses were piling up everywhere. Now that she was in high school, she needed to attend a study hall, and the books and workbooks she had to buy had multiplied compared to middle school.

Having lost her parents at a young age, Si Hyeon was living as a dependent in her Uncle’s household.

[How can you ask for money so naturally?]

Every time Si Hyeon needed money for something, her Aunt openly humiliated her. She’d just received money for the study hall fee yesterday, and already she dreaded asking for money again today for workbook expenses.

‘How should I bring this up…?’

Lost in thought as she walked down the street, something suddenly flew past right in front of her eyes. Startled, she looked over to see a little boy crouching with his head covered, and a slipper pouch decorated with a robot had hit his back and rolled onto the ground.

A few children pointed at the crouching boy and chanted a mocking song.

“He’s a dummy, he’s a dummy! He’s too dumb to even write Hangul!”

“Hey, foreigner! Go live in your own country!”

The bullies looked around second or third grade, while the boy being picked on was considerably smaller—even younger-looking than a kindergartener, had it not been for the backpack nearly as big as his body.

Si Hyeon glared fiercely at the children.

“What do you think you’re doing? Want to get punished?”

When the high school girl approached with glaring eyes, the kids shrieked and ran away.

Even after she’d chased off the bullies and walked closer, the boy remained crouched in place. Si Hyeon gently pulled him up by the arm and brushed the dirt off his clothes.

“Are you okay?”

Only then did the boy look up at her—and Si Hyeon was startled. Pale skin, brown eyes. The child was mixed-race.

“It’s dinnertime already; go home quickly. Your mom will be looking for you.”

Finally, the boy muttered quietly,

“I don’t have a mom.”

Si Hyeon was taken aback.

“Then won’t your dad be looking for you?”

“I don’t have a dad either.”

This time, Si Hyeon was utterly speechless. Unsure how to handle the situation, she was deep in thought when a loud noise suddenly came from somewhere: Grrrrumble.

“Are you hungry, by any chance?”

The boy nodded.

Hearing there was nothing to eat at home, Si Hyeon bought instant noodles at a nearby store and followed the boy.

He lived in a shabby basement apartment not far from Si Hyeon’s own home.

When she opened the refrigerator, all she found was spoiled side dishes and overripe kimchi. Though a little rice remained in the rice bin, it was infested with so many weevils it was clearly inedible.

Si Hyeon hastily boiled instant noodles in an old enameled pot. The boy devoured the plain noodles—as if they were the most delicious thing in the world.

Si Hyeon watched him eat, her chin resting on her hand. His hair was fine and soft like silk thread, and his large brown eyes made him look as if he’d just stepped out of a picture book she’d read as a child.

According to what he’d shared between bites, his name was Yoon Tae Ha. He was nine years old and in second grade of elementary school. He looked barely seven due to his small frame—but he was actually in the same class as those bullies earlier.

He said his parents weren’t around, so he lived alone with his grandmother.

“Then where is your grandmother now?”

Si Hyeon asked as she served him more noodles.

“She hardly ever comes home.”

“How long has it been since she left last?”

“Three nights.”

“Did she say when she’d be back?”

Tae Ha nodded.

“Then how have you been eating all this time?”

“I get school lunches.”

“What about breakfast and dinner?”

This time, he shook his head.

So the child had been surviving on just one meal a day—and on weekends, he probably didn’t even get that…

Now Si Hyeon understood why he was so much smaller than kids his age. Her eyes stung with tears, so she quickly stood up.

“Finish your noodles. I’ll be right back.”

For a moment, worry flickered across the boy’s face. Si Hyeon patted his head and said,

“I’ll be back soon. Is there anything you’d like to eat?”

Tae Ha shook his head. After going so long without food, he surely had many cravings—but seeing the child already too cautious to speak honestly, perhaps already hardened by life, broke her heart.

“I’ll be back real quick.”

Si Hyeon practically ran out of Tae Ha’s house and headed straight back to the store where she’d bought the noodles. Fortunately, she still had the money she’d received yesterday for the study hall fee.

She bought a small bag of rice and various child-friendly side dishes—eggs, ham, sausages—you name it.

Though only a first-year high school student herself, Si Hyeon was quite skilled in cooking.

[You must start bride-training her early, so she can marry well someday.]

Ever since Si Hyeon reached upper elementary school, her Aunt routinely shooed her into the kitchen to help the housekeeper. Meanwhile, she never let her own daughter, A Hyeon, get so much as a drop of water on her hands—as if she never intended for her to marry at all.

After buying a few snacks too, the study hall money was completely gone. The thought of lying to her Aunt about losing the money worried her, but she couldn’t possibly ignore a starving child.

Si Hyeon returned to Tae Ha’s house, both hands laden with heavy bags.

“Did you finish the noodles?”

Seeing Si Hyeon return, Tae Ha’s face visibly relaxed with relief.

For a child to cling so dependently to someone he’d only met an hour ago—just how lonely and frightened must he have been all this time? Suddenly reminded of her own childhood, tears welled up in Si Hyeon’s eyes.

Si Hyeon’s parents had died together in an accident when she was exactly Tae Ha’s age. She still couldn’t forget the shock and grief—it felt like being utterly alone under the sky.

But at least she’d never gone hungry. Although her Aunt treated her like a housemaid, she’d never denied her meals.

“Go inside and watch TV. I’ll do some work in the kitchen.”

But Tae Ha kept hovering near her. Whenever Si Hyeon muttered even half a sentence like, “Where’s the knife?” he’d immediately understand and fetch it for her.

Her cousin, A Hyeon, who lived in the same house and was five years younger, never followed Si Hyeon’s lead. In fact, she was always desperate to tattle on Si Hyeon’s slightest mistake to her own mother.

The boy followed her around like a loyal puppy—so endearing and pitiful that it pierced her heart.

Si Hyeon thoroughly cleaned the filthy kitchen, cooked a full pot of rice, and prepared several side dishes. She stir-fried fresh kimchi, made rolled omelets, and pan-fried sausages and ham.

“If you get hungry, just take out the rice and side dishes and eat. I’ll come again tomorrow evening.”

It was long past sunset. Leaving a young child alone in the middle of the night felt unbearable—but she couldn’t possibly stay overnight either. After all, Si Hyeon was still just a first-year high school girl who’d get scolded if she came home late.

Though he could’ve thrown a tantrum begging her not to go, Tae Ha acted maturely. His face clearly showed how much he didn’t want her to leave, yet he quietly bid her farewell.

“Goodbye, sister.”

Hearing him say that made it even harder to leave. After some thought, Si Hyeon detached a small teddy bear keychain from her bag and handed it to him.

“Keep this.”

Tae Ha took the toy and stared at Si Hyeon with clear, brown eyes, as if asking, “What’s this?”

“My parents passed away too. My mom gave this to me on my birthday a long time ago.”

Si Hyeon bent down to meet his eyes.

“It’s really precious to me. So take good care of it—and you must return it to me tomorrow.”

She wanted to reassure him she’d definitely come back. Tae Ha seemed to understand, and his expression finally brightened a little.

Clutching the teddy bear Si Hyeon had given him, the boy—who looked as lovely as a doll—stood by the door and waved his small hand.

“Come again tomorrow, sister.”

Sensing exactly what expression Tae Ha wore, Si Hyeon couldn’t bring herself to look back.

“Back then, you couldn’t even write the basic Hangul alphabet. I’m the one who taught you Hangul, made your meals, brushed your teeth, washed your hair—and raised you. That child was you.”

The boy, now fully grown, stared at her the whole time with an expression as if listening to someone else’s story. Frustrated, Si Hyeon pleaded desperately.

“So you shouldn’t treat me like this! Not even if the sky splits in two!”

“Well, let’s assume that’s all true.”

Tae Ha gazed intently at Si Hyeon as if studying her expression.

“Aren’t we both proper adults now? And weren’t you perfectly fine sleeping in my arms all night? Really?”

“Do you think this is the first or second time I’ve held you while sleeping?”

Si Hyeon stamped her foot in exasperation.

“Every time there was thunder and lightning, I held you through the night! Every time you ranked first in school, I gave you a kiss! Whenever your stomach hurt, I rubbed it until you felt better!”

A child raised without love had even shown signs of developmental delay—so she’d made a point of hugging him often. And now, after all that, he was making a fuss over just one night spent lying beside her? Honestly!

Finally, Tae Ha asked cautiously, as if seeking confirmation,

“So to you, Kang Si Hyeon, I’m just a kid—both back then and even now?”

“Yes!”

Relieved he might finally understand, Si Hyeon sighed.

“Now that you get it, stop talking nonsense. If you do this one more time, I’ll really be angry.”

Just as she turned to leave after speaking firmly, he grabbed her wrist.

“To be honest, my stomach’s been hurting a bit since earlier.”

He lifted his shirt hem, revealing a taut, muscular abdomen.

“It’d be nice if you could rub it for me.”

While Si Hyeon flinched in surprise, he placed her hand on his exposed stomach and stared deeply into her eyes.

“Why? Am I not even a man to you?”

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did

“How dare you!”

“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?

“I will never accept that.”

“I will never let you return to him.”

“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”

“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”

“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!

At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.

Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.

The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.

Synopsis:

Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?

Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?

Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?

The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.

The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.

Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
