“Tae Ha.”

Si Hyeon spoke quietly.

“Don’t wait for me like this anymore.”

Tae Ha flinched in surprise and looked at Si Hyeon. Her eyes gazed up at him as if clinging to him, silently asking why he was acting this way all of a sudden, and his chest ached faintly.

Even though his body, face, and voice had all matured into those of a proper man, why did his eyes remain exactly as they were when he was a child?

Annoyed at herself for wavering again despite her resolve, Si Hyeon deliberately made her voice cold.

“Let’s keep some distance from now on. If people notice us getting close, they’ll assume I broke off the engagement because of you.”

“But that’s not true at all. Do other people’s opinions really matter that much?”

“I’m already upset enough about the broken engagement—I don’t want to be falsely accused of having an affair. And I don’t want you to suffer people pointing fingers behind your back.”

[It was because of that man that she broke off the engagement, right?]

After hearing A Hyeon’s words, Si Hyeon realized it. She might accidentally force Tae Ha into the dirty role meant for Bo Ra. That was absolutely unbearable.

Tae Ha stepped forward abruptly. He took her hand and enclosed it tightly within his large palms, then looked intently into Si Hyeon’s eyes from close range.

“I don’t care. I don’t mind if people point fingers or say whatever they want.”

Turning her head away to avoid his gaze, Si Hyeon spoke gently, as if trying to soothe him.

“Didn’t I tell you before? If we become a man and woman together, people will think I raised you all along intending this—that we’ve been involved since you were a minor. That’s exactly why we can’t be together.”
