Si Hyeon stayed up all night combing through user logs and finally collapsed onto her desk in a deep sleep just before dawn. She didn’t open her eyes until everyone had already arrived at work, and even then, she remained groggy and half-asleep.

“This won’t do, Si Hyeon. Let’s go get a coffee transfusion.”

Dragged along by Mi Ju, she drank an Americano with a whopping triple shot, and only then did her mind start to clear a little.

Taking advantage of their coffee break, Si Hyeon consulted Mi Ju about the bridal trousseau.

“Well, just go ahead and prepare it then.”

Mi Ju said this after hearing the whole situation.

“What? I expected you to jump up in protest and ask why you should even do such a thing.”

Surprised by this unexpected reply, Si Hyeon stared at Mi Ju curiously. Mi Ju was usually so proper and fiery-tempered that Si Hyeon had anticipated her angrily exclaiming, “Where in the world do they even have such rules?”

“Of course it’s unfair! But you know, looking at my older sisters, that’s just how it is. If you weren’t getting married, fine—but since you are, it’s actually easier all around to just do what your in-laws want. Otherwise, they’ll keep bringing it up even after the wedding. Take my oldest sister, for example: because she didn’t get her mother-in-law that mink coat, even ten years into her marriage, every winter her mother-in-law still complains about her bones aching and uses it as an excuse to pick fights!”

As if venting her frustrations, Mi Ju suddenly thrust up her index finger.

“Plus, don’t forget—it’s absolutely not just your boyfriend’s idea alone. His parents brought it up. So they’ve probably already fixed the exact amount in their heads, right?”

“Do you think so?”

“That’s exactly how it is. So, as much as possible, it’s better to just go along with what they ask. Besides, once you send the trousseau money, half of it comes back as a return gift, so in the end, it’s really only about fifteen million won. That’s not an impossible amount, is it?”

Hearing this, Si Hyeon realized Mi Ju was probably right. Her worries seemed resolved, and she instantly felt refreshed.

“Thank you for the advice, Mi Ju. You’re absolutely right.”
