Si Hyeon sat dazed for a long while.

Originally, the apartment next door had been occupied by a young woman who, like Si Hyeon, lived alone and commuted to work. She’d moved out just a few days ago, and Si Hyeon had exchanged a few words with her during her departure, so she knew the place was vacant.

But for Tae Ha to move in there?

Si Hyeon snapped out of her daze. She bought beer and some simple snacks from a nearby convenience store and rang the doorbell next door.

“Can I come in for a bit?”

Instead of answering, Tae Ha simply opened the door. Stepping into the entrance, Si Hyeon glanced around the small studio apartment. It had the same layout as her own.

It looked almost as if no one had moved in at all—there was hardly any furniture—but oddly enough, the kitchen appliances were fully equipped.

“When did you move in?”

As she sat down on the sofa, Tae Ha popped open a beer can and handed it to her before replying.

“This afternoon.”

“But you were at the office all day today, weren’t you?”

“My stuff was brought over by the movers.”

“Why did you have to move in right next to me?”

Tae Ha shot back,

“You don’t seriously think I knew this was your place and moved here on purpose, do you?”

Of course that couldn’t be true. Si Hyeon quickly changed the subject.

“What I meant was, why choose a 700,000-won studio? You’ve got plenty of money, right?”

Si Hyeon looked at Tae Ha with eyes full of suspicion. If I had 30 billion won in assets, I’d never live in a tiny studio like this.

“I’ve got a one-year contract with the company. The office was too far, so I just needed somewhere decent to stay for a year.”

True, it was one of the closest studios to the office. Still, it felt too coincidental—but Si Hyeon decided to accept it at that.

If it wasn’t coincidence, then what else could it be?

On second thought, having Tae Ha as a neighbor wouldn’t be bad at all. In fact, it might be quite nice.

She could have a beer with him now and then, wouldn’t have to worry about throwing away leftover fried chicken, and he’d probably help with taking out the trash, like he did earlier.

Most of all, living alone as a woman in these dangerous times had been nerve-wracking—but knowing Tae Ha was right next door gave her a sense of security.

Si Hyeon sat slightly apart from Tae Ha and sipped her beer.

“When did your memories come back?”

“A while ago.”

Tae Ha avoided giving a precise answer. Si Hyeon guessed that his memories must have gradually returned after hearing old stories—certainly before his birthday night, when he’d clearly already remembered everything.

“Well, I’m glad they came back.”

“Why?”

“You barged in acting like you didn’t even recognize me. I was so startled.”

“Did you really hate it that much?”

“Would you like it? Switch places with me. How would you feel if I’d done that to you?”

“If it were me…”

Tae Ha started to speak, then stopped himself and gulped down his beer.

“I thought I’d go crazy after you vanished without a word. Did you get a head injury in the military or something?”

Tae Ha just vaguely mumbled, “Hmm.”

“Even so, you couldn’t just forget me?”

When Si Hyeon shot him a reproachful glance, Tae Ha gave a bitter smile.

“I wish I could have forgotten.”

Her heart sank instantly. Even now that his memories had returned, what did he mean by wishing he’d forgotten? Was she really just an embarrassing memory he wanted erased?

Trying to hide her embarrassment, Si Hyeon quickly took another swig of beer—when Tae Ha suddenly said,

“I was too harsh this morning.”

Si Hyeon gave a small laugh.

“It’s fine. I know how frustrated you must have been to say something like that.”

In truth, she’d been angry until just this evening—but after hearing Woo Jin talk about spoons and wedding gifts, she finally understood.

It wasn’t unreasonable for Tae Ha to suggest she reject them. If it were me, I’d probably tell him to call off his marriage if his fiancée treated me that way.

“But Woo Jin oppa really is a good person.”

Si Hyeon said this almost as if trying to convince herself.

“His parents didn’t seem bad either. They probably just figured we’d be family anyway, so they acted casually.”

But Tae Ha’s expression turned angry immediately.

“My father would never have treated you like that.”

Si Hyeon was left speechless.

“Why are you suddenly bringing up cheat codes now?”

Now that he mentioned it, she’d completely forgotten about Tae Ha’s father—Leon Kennedy—the man who’d found Tae Ha in his first year of high school and turned out to be his biological father.

She should’ve asked his father about her long ago. Si Hyeon asked,

“Has Mr. Leon not mentioned me at all this whole time?”

“He hasn’t.”

Tae Ha’s blunt reply made Si Hyeon feel a little disappointed. He used to dote on me so much.

“How’s he doing?”

“He must be a vampire—he hasn’t aged at all.”

The way he said it with clear annoyance made Si Hyeon burst out laughing.

“So you’re saying he’s still handsome?”

Leon, being American, had visited Korea faithfully once or twice a year ever since finding his son. The last time they’d met was when Tae Ha was in his third year of high school—that was already seven years ago.

So Mr. Leon must be about forty-five this year… she was thinking, when Tae Ha suddenly asked,

“You don’t still have a crush on our father, do you?”

Si Hyeon nearly spat out the beer in her mouth.

“Anyone hearing that would think it’s true!”

“Your face is turning red—how about you just admit it.”

There was a reason Tae Ha was saying this.

Si Hyeon had met Leon for the first time when she was twenty-four. Back then, Leon was still in his mid-thirties—and the moment she saw him, she’d honestly thought,

Is there anyone else in the world this handsome?

“You really think I don’t know you’ve been secretly meeting my dad on your own?”

That wasn’t it at all… But she’d promised Leon not to say anything, so she couldn’t tell the truth. Si Hyeon just grabbed another beer can.

Just as she reached for a fresh can—the empty one in her hand—Tae Ha took it away.

“Your hand still hurts.”

She remembered Woo Jin scolding her earlier for brushing off her red, injured hand as “nothing.” She let out a sigh.

After popping open a new can and handing it back, Tae Ha quietly asked,

“You never used to handle alcohol well. When did you get so good at it?”

“I moved out when I turned thirty. Living alone, I just got used to it.”

Truthfully, it wasn’t just because she lived alone. Her aunt kept pressuring her to marry quickly, and Woo Jin kept hedging, saying it was still too early. Stuck between them, she’d gradually started drinking more to cope with the stress.

As the alcohol began to take effect, her mood lifted. Smiling brightly, Si Hyeon asked,

“So when are you going to grant my wish?”

“What wish?”

“You promised me when we were kids—you said you’d grant any wish I made on my birthday once you grew up. Don’t tell me you conveniently forgot that part too?”

Tae Ha answered without hesitation.

“Go ahead. Ask for anything.”

“What if I really ask for anything? What then?”

Tae Ha raised an eyebrow, clearly challenging her to try.

“Oh, I feel like I just won the lottery!”

Wondering what to ask for, Si Hyeon blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

“Then buy me a car.”

“I’ll buy it.”

Tae Ha nodded without a second’s hesitation.

“No, not a car—buy me a house. A penthouse, like in the dramas.”

“I’ll buy it.”

Clearly, Si Hyeon had been joking—but every single reply came back utterly serious.

She realized too late she’d picked the wrong person to joke with. She’d completely forgotten that Tae Ha was absurdly wealthy.

Of course, no matter how rich Tae Ha had become, Si Hyeon had no intention of benefiting from it. He probably already had enough people bothering him; she didn’t want to become one of them.

Si Hyeon quickly burst into laughter, trying to cover up her slip.

“Cancel, cancel! Between us, what do material things matter? It’s the thought that counts.”

“Do you need my heart?”

With a completely sober expression, Tae Ha stared straight into her eyes.

“Then I’ll give it to you.”

It felt as if she’d sobered up instantly.

Why does he keep saying things like this…?

Unable to bear his intense, expectant gaze, Si Hyeon deliberately stretched and yawned.

“I guess I’m really tired today. I’m already sleepy.”

She stood up.

“I’ll head home and sleep now. See you at the office tomorrow.”

Suddenly, Tae Ha grabbed her wrist. Startled, she looked up—and met his deep, steady eyes.

“Everyone’s been curious.”

He fixed his gaze firmly on Si Hyeon’s eyes, then moved his lips as if drawing a line.

“Why I came to this company.”

She could clearly see her own reflection in his dark brown eyes.

“…Aren’t you curious?”

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t. He must be busy with his own company—so even if he’d joined as a temporary savior, why choose someone else’s company? Especially Future Bank, which wasn’t even an IT firm.

But for some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to ask right now.

It felt like she shouldn’t.

Instead of answering, Si Hyeon turned her head to look at the clock on the wall.

“It’s late. I should go.”

After leaving Tae Ha’s apartment, Si Hyeon returned to her own.

Like most studio buildings, soundproofing here was terrible. At its worst, she could even hear the click of her neighbor turning their lights on and off.

“It feels reassuring… but also kind of awkward…”

Muttering to herself as she walked toward her bed, Si Hyeon froze. Something small and pitch-black slithered under the table.

Si Hyeon screamed.

“Kyaaah!”

Barely thirty seconds later, the urgent beeping of the digital lock echoed outside, and Tae Ha burst in.

“What’s wrong? What happened?”

Si Hyeon ran over and hid behind Tae Ha’s back. Of all things in the world, she hated multi-legged creatures the most. Zombies and ghosts didn’t scare her—but bugs terrified her to death.

“It, it, it…!”

Trembling, she pointed under the table.

“A spider.”

Tae Ha immediately understood and took action. Watching him carefully wrap the spider in a tissue and release it out the window, Si Hyeon finally let out a sigh of relief.

“Thank you.”

Then she suddenly realized—Tae Ha was wearing only a shower robe. His hair was damp, and the robe gaped widely open, revealing his bare chest.

Si Hyeon quickly averted her eyes and scolded him.

“What are you wearing?”

“What? You screamed, so I came running straight from the shower.”

“You could’ve at least put on some clothes!”

Tae Ha didn’t even blink.

“You said I wasn’t a man, right? Me.”

“No! Of course you are!”

Still refusing to look at him, Si Hyeon shot back—when Tae Ha suddenly stepped closer.

“Then why can’t you look me in the eye?”

Tae Ha spread the robe wide open, revealing the dazzling body hidden beneath.

“Look straight. ……Am I a man or not?”

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

[Reading Guide]

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
