“…Because you have nothing special, but you keep pretending to be special.”
Staring straight into Si-hyun’s eyes, Bora sneered and retorted.
“Sure, that’s right.” Si-hyun sighed. “Okay, you’re right. Can I brag about money, about my family, or maybe about my looks? But seriously, what did I do to show off?”
Completely puzzled, Si-hyun asked, and Bora pursed her pretty lips.
“The pictures you took. If those were released, my life could have been ruined, but you didn’t go that far. Even after my breakup, you didn’t spread the rumor that it was because of me.”
“Yeah, so what?”
“You always act so high and mighty, elegant, and pretending to be special over trivial matters! That’s why you’re unlucky. Got it?”
Si-hyun was baffled.
“So, you’re angry because I didn’t ruin your life, is that it?”
But Bora was sincere.
At first, she thought Si-hyun had confided in her close colleague, Miju. But later, she found out that Miju didn’t know anything.
After the rumor spread in the company that “Did Kang Si-hyun divorce because of Lee Bora,” Si-hyun didn’t spread it herself. It was just a baseless speculation someone made after seeing Kim Woojin’s mother talking to her. If it had come from Si-hyun, the content would have been much more specific.
In other words, Si-hyun kept her mouth shut from beginning to end. Bora couldn’t stand it because it hurt her pride.
Of course, if Si-hyun had spoken, it would have put her in a very awkward position. Nevertheless, it might have been less unlucky than the current situation.
Staring into Si-hyun’s eyes, Bora mockingly said,
“You’re going to stop advertising in our newspaper? Go ahead and do it. I’m going to get married soon anyway. If my father-in-law finds out, it won’t matter.”
Only then did Si-hyun understand why Bora had come to apologize. It was because Leon had said he would stop advertising in the Cho Han newspaper.
“Do you know that my father is from Hanyoung Group? I don’t know how great Yoon Taeha’s father was in the United States, but he’s far from being able to follow our family in Korea. He’s just pretending to be great by buying one hotel and a department store.”
With her true colors exposed once, Bora didn’t try to hide her feelings anymore.
“Do you know how to do what my father does? Just watch. Our family won’t stay quiet either.”
Feeling the endless malice, Si-hyun felt strangely relieved.
Yes, this is who Lee Bora is originally. There’s no point in questioning why.
“Thanks for telling the truth. Thanks to you, I’ve sorted things out.”
Si-hyun took a deep breath and said,
“I don’t really understand what you mean by advertising, but anyway, I’ll tell him not to do that to you.”
Turning her back to Si-hyun, Bora spat out behind her back.
“Keep pretending to be special till the end.”
Si-hyun sighed and stopped walking. Without turning around, she said,
“Do you know why I let you go?”
“…”
“Because I didn’t want to become an ordinary person like you.”
Her calm voice until the end overturned Bora’s judgment.
Yes, that’s what I dislike about her. Talking about things like parents who aren’t there. Always pretending to be special, elegant, and pretending to be something over nothing!
“Wait and see!”
As Si-hyun moved away, Bora, fueled by malice, cursed loudly.
“You won’t be able to keep pretending forever!”
However, Si-hyun never turned back.
[Star Icon]After the incident, Soo-yeon was restless all the time. She was in no condition to run a business, so she closed the store altogether.
She couldn’t bring herself to contact Si-hyun. She didn’t know how to console the child who was being pointed at for raising her own child as a sin.
[Trust me and wait just one more day. I’ll take care of it.] A ray of hope was solely Leon’s words. The next day, Su-yeon received a call from Leon’s secretary. Hearing that she should turn on the TV immediately, Su-yeon sat alone in the store and watched Leon’s press conference live broadcast.
[The fiancee of my son is not a daughter-in-law but my daughter.]Chairman Kennedy, speaking towards the camera, was a different person from the man who complained in front of Su-yeon just yesterday, holding her finger.
While before, Leon’s appearance seemed like a person from a completely different world, now it felt different. Confident, radiant, and incredibly trustworthy.
It was prideful to have him as the father of her son. Thinking that she had once loved such a person, her heart pounded anew.
On the TV screen, Su-yeon couldn’t take her eyes off the man’s face.
[Tae-ha seems to resemble his father. Is his mother Korean, by any chance?]The moment the reporter asked a question about her, Su-yeon felt as if her heart had stopped. She wondered if Leon would be uncomfortable with someone like her. Embarrassed.
She wanted to hide under the table, but Leon answered confidently without a hint of confusion.
[I’ve been separated for a long time due to circumstances, but I’ve never forgotten that person. She’s still the person I love unchanged.]That person… He still loves me…
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
