Leon Kennedy was Suyeon’s first love and the only person she had loved throughout her life.

It had been twenty-five years since she gave birth to his child. Despite faking her death and living as a dead person due to that incident, Suyeon never regretted meeting and loving Leon.

She only felt endlessly guilty to the child who grew up without knowing the face of her real mother.

“Why are you crying? You have no right to cry about that useless topic.”

Wiping away her tears as if nothing happened, Suyeon muttered with effort.

Suyeon had endured harsh struggles all this time. With a body marked as dead, she couldn’t get a proper job, legal protection, or even afford to go to the hospital when she was sick.

The hope that kept her going through those days was the anticipation of meeting her son someday and, of course, Leon.

Even when she took a brief break from doing strenuous dishwashing all day at the restaurant or when she got kicked out after falsely accused of a crime while working as a live-in housekeeper, she habitually thought of Leon’s face.

‘If I just keep on living, maybe I’ll see him someday. So, I have to stay strong.’

Even if she became 60 or 70 years old, as long as she could see him once.

That tiny hope sustained her.

Perhaps that’s why, when she saw the flowers in front of the store, his image naturally came to her mind.

‘Why did I have such a foolish thought? He’s probably living well, having built his own family by now.’

While she had no one else to rely on but him, and even though she hadn’t forgotten him for a single day, he was different. Naturally, he must have had several other loves, marriages, and even other children with different women.

Thinking about it was like tearing her heart apart, but Suyeon forced herself to hold back the pain.

‘Then, did I hope for my child to grow up without a mother? I should be grateful.’

But no matter how much she tried to compose herself, tears flowed endlessly.

At that moment, Leon was inside a private plane heading to Seoul.

Staring out of the dark window for a long time, Leon suddenly signaled the stewardess.

“Could you prepare some curry by any chance?”

Instant curry was always available on the private plane since it was his favorite. The Korean stewardess kindly responded.

“Yes, Mr. Chairman. I’ll prepare it right away.”

As the stewardess stepped back, the smell of curry began to subtly spread throughout the cabin. The familiar scent brought back old memories, and Leon closed his eyes.

Leon Kennedy was a freshman who had just entered college. His major was business administration.

In fact, his dream since childhood was to become a painter. However, his stubborn parents insisted that their eldest son learn business to inherit the family business.

Overwhelmed by his oppressive parents, Leon ran away from the dormitory in the middle of the semester.

His parents, like ghosts, knew where he was and sent people to catch him. He went straight to the airport, and by sheer coincidence, the farthest place he could go at that moment turned out to be Korea.

All he knew about Korea was the Korean War and the ’88 Seoul Olympics.

Since he didn’t know a word of Korean, he randomly took a bus as soon as he arrived at the airport. He got off at the last stop. From there, he changed to another bus and got off at the last stop again.

After repeating this several times, he ended up in a small rural village whose name he couldn’t even recognize.

The moment he got off the bus, he felt a destiny-like vibe.

Certainly, it wasn’t the picturesque scenery one might see in European rural villages. Even though it was a rural village, all the houses were modern, and unfamiliar things grew neatly between the fields, where plows or tractors passed.

Even the grandmothers selling vegetables on the street were all bent over, working with hoes.
The peculiar landscape, blending the feel of the countryside and the city, seemed to suit and not suit Leon’s taste at the same time.

He found it much more charming than the idyllic farms of Provence that everyone often painted.

Above all, at this point, it seemed unlikely that his parents would find him.

Leon immediately got a room in the only small motel in the city and spent his days drawing around the area.

Living a life of drawing from the moment he woke up until he went to bed at night was satisfying. With living costs not too high, he thought he could manage for one or two years with the money he brought.

The problem arose about a month later. While the room was vacant, a thief had entered and cleaned out everything. Not only the Korean money he exchanged at the airport but also the dollars were taken.

The small local police station didn’t bother to accept the report of a poorly-communicating foreigner.

He was afraid that if he contacted the embassy for help, his parents might find out. Kennedy’s influence was widespread, affecting various fields.

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
