Tae Ha was drinking late into the night at home, giving his father relationship advice. Meanwhile, Si Hyun was getting drunk in an unexpected place.
It was none other than the Mi-Ju’s house.
“Why can’t you just go home?”
“Can you let me stay for just one day, pretending you don’t know?”
“I’ll let you stay, but I need to know the details!”
The landlord pestered Si Hyun without even letting her sleep. Since Si Hyun wasn’t crying, she even started writing a novel.
“Is that crazy guy keep coming to your house and begging? Is that what’s happening?”
“No. Tae… um.”
Si Hyun almost blurted out, “After being beaten by Tae Ha and chased away, I haven’t seen him,” and hurriedly covered her mouth.
“It’s not like that. Lately, I haven’t even seen his shadow.”
“If it’s not that, why can’t you go back to a perfectly fine house?”
Si Hyun sighed as she looked at the persistent Mi-Ju.
Si Hyun was certain that Mi-Ju was on her side. She hadn’t said anything to Mi-Ju, but she was grateful that Mi-Ju had figured it out and avenged her on her behalf. It felt like a shot of soda.
Because of Mi-Ju, she wanted to confide in someone who would understand the truth. The problem was that Tae Ha was currently Mi-Ju’s boss.
However, talking while keeping the other person a secret was also something she couldn’t do. It had only been two weeks since their breakup, and how could she possibly confess that she had already kissed another guy?
Moreover, just seeing that guy’s face made her heart pound like the drums of war, and on top of that, he lived right next door. It was obvious that he was anxiously waiting for her by now, so she couldn’t bring herself to say that she couldn’t go home.
“Fine, if you don’t tell me, I won’t let you sleep until morning. How about spending the night with me, just the two of us?”
In the end, Si Hyun reluctantly opened her mouth in response to Mi-Ju’s persistence that seemed like obsession.
“Uh, well, the thing is… I have someone I like.”
She had barely said those words when Mi-Ju’s eyes lit up.
“No way, you’ve met someone new?”
Seeing Mi-Ju staring as if she had some extraordinary talent, Si Hyun hastily waved her hand.
“No! It’s not like I met someone out of the blue. It’s just someone I’ve known for a long time…”
“That guy from the coin shop?”
Before Si Hyun could even finish her sentence, Mi-Ju shouted, sending shivers down Si Hyun’s spine. Just like when it was about Bora, Mi-Ju’s intuition was no joke.
“Mi-Ju, do you happen to have some strange powers?”
“I won’t ask for a fortune, so spill it right now. I’ll listen to everything.”
Mi-Ju leaned in closely.
“Well… it’s just…”
In the end, Si Hyun stumbled through and confessed most of what had happened, except for the fact that her crush was Yoon Tae Ha, the head of the Coin Department.
After clumsily recounting the embarrassing details, Mi-Ju organized them as if she were a ghost and asked,
“So, the wealthy guy from the coin shop has actually liked you for a long time?”
“Uh, yeah.”
“But then, how did it happen that you kissed that guy, and now your heart is racing constantly since then?”
“It seems like… Ow!”
Suddenly, Mi-Ju delivered a sharp blow to Si Hyun’s back, and her response ended with a scream.
“You’re still calling that a dilemma?”
Tears welled up in Si Hyun’s eyes from how boldly she had been scolded. Unable to lie down properly because of her back, Si Hyun groaned in pain as she faced the wall and the back of the couch.
“I let you in. Don’t ever talk about such worries outside. You’ll only get criticized.”
“Why?”
“Go out and talk to any woman you find. Tell them you’re in a dilemma because a rich guy, seven years younger than you, is obsessed with you and won’t leave you alone. Tell them you’re in a dilemma because you kissed him and now your heart races. Go on, try it!”
Si Hyun blinked her eyes. Listening objectively, Mi-Ju’s words seemed to be right on the mark. If someone told me the same thing, I would probably say, “Just flaunt it openly rather than calling it a dilemma.”
Of course, the situation on this side was not that simple.
“I told you, he’s like my own… I mean, I’ve raised him…”
“He’s not your own child, is he? What’s the problem then?”
After hearing the same words for the third time, following Joo Eun and Su Yeon, Si Hyun shuddered once again.
“Yeah, I get that you’ve known him since he was a kid. But isn’t it fine as long as he looks like a man now?”
Seemingly frustrated, Mi-Ju grabbed Si Hyun and continued to scold her.
“Who cares who points fingers or who talks behind your back? What’s the big deal about a seven-year age difference nowadays? It’s so old-fashioned, really!”
“Is that so?”
“And by the way? How about letting people talk behind your back for once? Let them gossip to their hearts’ content? Anyway, you’ll hear gossip, right? Isn’t it a hundred times better to be in a relationship with a capable younger man than to hear rumors about you, even to the point of returning the wedding invitations and announcing your breakup?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
