Lasiel moved busily up and down the stairs with a joyful heart.

She was utterly delighted, feeling as though she had become a member of the household bustling with memorial rites and guests.

Yet, strangely, she couldn’t run as nimbly as she used to.

Lasiel hadn’t even run far before she was already panting heavily, clutching the silver candelabra box as she turned left around the main building and crossed the rear garden.

“Hah. Hah.”

Lasiel spotted a considerable number of people already gathered near the shrine and halted her hurried steps.

Catching her breath for a moment, she gazed at the approaching ivory-white building, then lowered her eyes to inspect her clothes.

She worried she might disgrace House Mosteros by showing up in an untidy state.

“Oh, wrinkles…”

She turned her head back and forth, checking for splashes of dirt and whether her shoes were clean. There were a few slightly creased spots, but nothing too noticeable, and nothing was stained.

Lasiel wiped the sweat from her brow and gently shook her head to tidy her parted bangs.

Thinking this was decent enough—not too shabby—she turned back toward the shrine, when she heard mocking voices from nearby men.

“Even if you’re from a cadet branch, you’re still destined to become this family’s son-in-law—I thought you’d be different from us, but you’re just as helpless, Hughie Sarion.”

“It’s only because we’re not married yet.”

“Oh? Is that so?”
