How many couples in this world see each other so infrequently despite living together?
“Considering the amount of time they spend together, affairs with secretaries aren’t uncommon. After all, they spend more time with their secretaries than with their wives.”
She recalled what Chaerin had said to her.
“Spending so much time together, isn’t it natural for feelings to develop?”
At the time, Yeonju had dismissed the comment with a scoff. But reflecting on it, it wasn’t entirely untrue.
It was likely that the secretary, Min-hee, had spent more time with him than she had. There could be a bond between them that she could never have.
Fiddling with her phone, Yeonju found Jinwook’s number.
Yet, she couldn’t press the call button. She didn’t want to disturb him if he was busy with work.
“Every day, people are working so hard that they feel like their heads are going to explode.”
Since hearing those words from Jinwook, contacting him had become even more difficult.

Finally, Yeonju put down the phone. Looking at it, she let out a hollow laugh.
Unable to freely make a phone call. Could this relationship still be called a marriage?
Yeonju, with a bitter smile, leaned back on the sofa bed. On the TV screen, the celebrities started laughing again at someone’s impression.
Listening to their laughter, Yeonju closed her eyes. Slowly, sleep enveloped her in its drowsy embrace.
Hours passed, and deep into the night…
Yeonju’s phone on the sofa rang.
“Rrrrrr, Rrrrrr.”
Yeonju immediately opened her eyes. Glancing at the wall clock, she saw it was past two in the morning. Wondering who could be calling at such a late hour, Yeonju checked her phone and was surprised.
It was a call from Jinwook. Worried the call might disconnect, Yeonju quickly answered.
“Hello?”

A woman’s voice coming from her husband’s phone made Yeonju’s face stiffen instantly.
[This is Minhee, the secretary of Director Jinwook.]Why was Minhee calling at this hour…?
Trying to suppress her confusion, Yeonju asked.
“Yes. What’s the matter?”
Minhee’s voice came through again.
[I’m currently at the front entrance of Director Jinwook’s residence. Madam, you might need to come out for a moment.]Wearing a black coat, Yeonju stepped outside.
The chill wind reddened the tip of her nose.

Opening the gate, she saw a sedan parked in front of the wall. It was the car Jinwook used for commuting to the company.
In front of the car stood a woman in a neat business suit. It was Jinwook’s secretary, Minhee.
“Good evening, Madam.”
She bowed her head in greeting to Yeonju.
Yeonju approached her. The familiar scent of Jinwook’s perfume wafted from Minhee, which brought a sense of discomfort to Yeonju as the breeze carried it her way.
Yeonju asked her.
“What’s going on?”
“I apologize for the late hour. It seems Director Jinwook is heavily intoxicated… I thought it best to contact you. I feared bringing him home myself would be inappropriate…”
Upon hearing this, Yeonju’s eyes widened.
Jinwook was drunk?

It was hard to believe. Jinwook had never come home drunk before, and although he occasionally drank at home, he was not someone who got easily intoxicated.
Yeonju turned her attention to the back seat of the car, where Minhee’s gaze kept drifting. Opening the car door, a strong scent of alcohol hit her. She saw Jinwook, his eyes closed, sitting in the back seat.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
