Yeonju looked at the nameplate on the hospital room door that read “Shin Mi-hyeon” and then knocked on the door.
Knock, knock.
Shortly after knocking, the door opened.
“Yeonju,” greeted the caregiver attending to Mi-hyeon.
“What brings you here so late at night?”
“Just… I wanted to see my mom.”
“Oh, I see. It’s cold out, you should’ve come during the day… Please, come in.”
Yeonju handed the caregiver the beverages and gifts she had prepared.
“Thank you for always taking good care of my mom.”
“Oh, it’s nothing… What am I even doing…”

As the caregiver awkwardly smiled, Yeonju said,
“Can I be alone with my mom for a bit?”
“Of course, I’ll be in the break room. Just call me when you’re leaving.”
“Thank you.”
Once the caregiver left, only mother and daughter remained in the room.
Yeonju slowly approached Mi-hyeon’s bedside.
“Mom, I’m here.”
Mi-hyeon did not respond, lying motionless as always.
“Mom.”
Yeonju caressed Mi-hyeon’s hand. She used to cling to the hope that one day this hand would embrace her, but now she didn’t know how to keep going.

A month had almost passed since she learned her pregnancy was unlikely.
Yet, she hadn’t told anyone. She had tried countless times to confess to Jinwook, but each time she turned away without saying a word.
‘I’m sorry, but at this state, the chances of pregnancy are slim.’
‘All I wanted from you was to quietly play the role of my wife. Is that too hard?’
Her body, unlikely to conceive. Her indifferent, cold husband. The constant pressure from her in-laws.
How long could she endure in this situation?
Even if she did, it would eventually be exposed. Once her condition was known, she would be discarded.
“Mom, what should I do now?”
She couldn’t run away because she couldn’t leave her mother behind. She had neither the capability nor the wealth to care for her comatose mother.
“I just want to give up everything…”
She didn’t want to live in that suffocating house anymore.

“I want to run away and escape…”
But then what about her mother?
A sentence she couldn’t even whisper hung in her mouth.
Yeonju gently stroked Mi-hyeon’s hand again. The hand was thin and frail, yet showed signs of hard labor.
Mi-hyeon had endured tough times raising Yeonju alone before marrying Daehan. She had to be strong and endure harsh times.
After marrying Daehan, Mi-hyeon hoped for happiness, but instead suffered scorn and disparagement from Kyung-ok.
Mi-hyeon’s life was too tragic to let go of her hand. Her life was too pitiful and heartbreaking to just leave.
Yeonju firmly held onto her shaky heart.
Had Mi-hyeon ever let go of her hand?
No matter the difficulties, Mi-hyeon always put Yeonju first. Even when marrying Daehan, Kyung-ok demanded she come alone without a child. But Mi-hyeon chose to give up Daehan rather than leave Yeonju.

So, Yeonju won’t let go either. She will endure until Mi-hyeon wakes up.
It doesn’t matter what happens with her husband, her parents, or her in-laws. As long as Mi-hyeon wakes up, nothing else matters.
Mi-hyeon was everything to Yeonju. Now that she had lost hope of having a child, all she had left was Mi-hyeon.
“Mom.”
Yeonju reached out to touch Mi-hyeon’s face.
“Please wake up.”
She gently caressed her face, whispering softly.
Yeonju gazed at the nameplate on the hospital room door reading “Shin Mi-hyeon” and then knocked.
Knock, knock.
Shortly after, the door opened.
“Yeonju,” greeted Mi-hyeon’s caregiver.

“Yes, of course. I’ll be in the staff room, so let me know when you’re leaving.”
“Thank you.”

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
