I rested my chin in my hand and thought crookedly.

Seizing the opportunity, Duke Hart began rattling off his words eagerly.

“Given your abundant combat experience, Your Highness, wouldn’t you be the perfect person to resolve this issue for the sake of our kingdom?”

At those words, I let out an involuntary scoff. Though he’d spoken at length, his true intent was simple.

“So, instead of a dowry, you want me to bring back the head of the monster from the southern harbor?”

At my sarcastic retort, Duke Hart lowered his head respectfully and replied,

“How could we possibly demand a dowry from someone of royal blood? But if Your Highness achieves such a feat, the people’s support will surely grow—that is all I meant to say.”

Slowly, I rose from my seat. Since I wasn’t yet Hadel’s official wife, I couldn’t openly occupy the queen’s place.
