Cecil, shuddering at her own thoughts, shook her head.

Her reverie didn’t last long. On her way back, having failed to meet Saedel, she encountered several noblewomen in the corridor.

These noblewomen, who were of her mother’s generation, were far more cunning than the young ladies.

“It’s been a while, Lady Cecil.”

“When might we finally help prepare your wedding? We’ve been eagerly awaiting that day.”

“What joy do we old folks have left? All we can do is tell the younger ones how royal weddings were held back when we were young ladies.”

Though they pretended concern for Cecil, they were in fact persistently probing whether something had gone awry between her and Prince Saedel.

‘They hope that once I step aside, their own families will have a chance.’
