I diligently used my short tail to dust off Hadal’s desk, the area around the drawers, and even the armrests of the chair.
Then, I naturally came across an ink bottle and a pen hanging in a pen holder.
‘Never seen such a pen before. Wrapped in metal, probably to prevent catching fire.’
It was both pitiable and perplexing. With a sense of sympathy, I gazed at the metal-wrapped pen and then shifted my attention to the documents underneath it. There were documents he had just been working on. I frowned.
‘But the addition here is wrong. Should I correct it?’
It’s basic math, and it’s wrong. With a slight pout, I grabbed the pen. But there was a problem.
‘Ugh, the pen is heavy.’
The metal-wrapped pen was much heavier than a normal pen.
“Yeek!”
Struggling to lift the pen and write, I wobbled and fell over.
Clang!
“Yipe!”
In doing so, my behind thumped against the ink bottle on the desk.
‘I’ve caused a mess.’
Thankfully, the ink bottle didn’t spill, but ink splattered, dotting the document I intended to correct. Sighing, I pulled out a blank sheet of paper.
‘I’ll just copy the wet document onto this, correcting the wrong numbers as I go.’
Struggling with the heavy pen, I diligently started writing on the paper. Though initially difficult, once I got the hang of it, the pen’s weight added momentum, making it easier to move.
‘Oh, I write even better.’
Luckily, the spelling was the same. After diligently copying, I hung the pen back in its holder.
‘Ugh, but I don’t see a cloth to wipe the ink.’
Now, besides the documents, I had to clean the other ink-stained areas, but there was no suitable tool in sight.
“Yipe.”
No choice then.
I sighed heavily and used my already overworked tail to wipe the ink-stained spots.
‘Phew, that seems to be everything. Should I head out now?’
About to leave, I hesitated for a moment, then crawled towards the open window.
‘Brr, cold.’
The cold wind made my teeth chatter instantly, but I had a goal in mind.
‘Had to endure. Hadal should appreciate my hard work.’
After getting ‘that thing’ outside, I quickly returned to the warmth of the office.
‘No way I can survive outside. It’s not even full-blown winter yet, and it’s this cold. What will it be like when it starts snowing heavily?’
A warm southern country, please send me there!
Having finished my last task, I stepped out of the office refreshed. The door was thankfully left slightly open for me.
‘The office is here, but where’s the library?’
My aim wasn’t the office but the library! To survive and amass worldly knowledge from books.
‘Need to check the weather at least, to see if I’ll freeze to death here.’
Weather was crucial to me. If it’s cold all year round, I can’t stay here even after gaining independence from Hadal.
‘Why is Hadal so fixated on my fur! Just leave me alone and love me as a pet!’
Sobbing with self-pity while running down the corridor, I ran into more people. This time, maids dusting.
“Ah! A stoat!”
“Really white, huh? But looks a bit different from what I heard.”
“Shh, be quiet. We must pretend not to see it, remember?”
Seems even here, there’s a directive to ignore me.
‘Why not directives to feed or cuddle me instead of ignoring me?’
I couldn’t fathom why Hadal would issue such an order, but the feeling of being overlooked was the same. I sighed heavily and trudged on. After a while, I heard a soft murmur from behind.
“……So cute.”
‘Eh?’
I turned around. The maids scattered at my glance, yet they couldn’t entirely hide their twinkling eyes aimed at me.
Apparently, they were referring to my cuteness.
‘Well, I am pretty cute.’
I shrugged nonchalantly, then slumped again, realizing the futility.
‘What’s the use of being cute if everyone treats me like a ghost stoat.’
Sob, stoats are too pitiful.
‘I worked hard cleaning, isn’t this too much? I deserve a reward.’
Muttering to myself, I suddenly caught a whiff of something irresistibly sweet.
‘Ah, that sweet scent. Could it be cake?’
Once tasted, such flavors become hauntingly memorable. Scents I’d previously ignored now held meaning and clarity. Ears and tail perked up, I excitedly pursued the aroma.
‘Cake!’
Where’s my cake! I’ve worked so hard today. I even fixed the addition error.
The cake is mine!
Following the scent, I spotted a familiar cart in the middle of the corridor.
‘That’s the butler’s cart!’
The very cart where my meals always arrived.
It was indeed my cake!
‘I shall enjoy it thoroughly!’
Just as I was about to leap in excitement,
“Got you.”
“Yipe!”
As I dashed towards the scent of the cake, I suddenly found myself dangling in mid-air.
Obviously, I hadn’t miraculously gained the ability to fly. Instead, someone had snatched me up by the scruff of my neck as I charged towards the cart.
And that someone was Hadal.
‘How did he know I was here?’
Rolling my eyes, I met Hadal’s gaze. His red eyes furrowed.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
