She's a Villainess but her Husband is Handsome (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
Deep night had fallen upon Duke Roger’s manor.
A silent room so still that even the sound of moonlight drifting through the window seemed audible.
Gulp.
Lorraine, pressed flat against the window, swallowed hard.
“Lorraine.”
The man approaching her, slowly undoing the buttons of his shirt one by one with long fingers, moved with a lethally perilous grace.
“I simply can’t understand it.”
Though his voice remained calm, it growled like that of a famished beast.
“C-Cedric. Just… what exactly don’t you understand?”
There was nowhere left to retreat.
Her mind was filled only with the need to stop him.
“Are you not even curious why I become so strange whenever I see you?”
Lorraine’s violet eyes, which had lingered on her husband’s face, slowly drifted downward.
Between the open edges of his shirt, the sculpted contours of his chest muscles heaved violently.
‘…No. Why is he acting like this all of a sudden?’
Her heart pounded with nervous anxiety, fearing he might do something rash—yet utterly baffled about why he was behaving this way, leaving her only frustrated.
In an instant, the remaining space between them shrank further.
“Wait! Cedric! You seem far too excited!”
Flustered, Lorraine stretched out a hand defensively before her chest.
At that moment, a large hand shot out and seized her wrist as if snatching it.
Veins throbbed prominently along Cedric’s hand as it firmly gripped her slender wrist.
“You’re the one who stirred me up, yet you tell me not to get excited?”
Lorraine swallowed another dry gulp at his low, simmering voice.
Her husband, burning with fever from standing in the rain despite his own pain just to protect her.
She had come to his room solely out of worry for his illness.
She’d merely been wiping the cold sweat from his face and neck with a cloth while he slept.
“Was I wrong?”
Suddenly, her husband had woken and started acting this way.
His searing gaze pinned her, intense enough to pierce through.
Startled, Lorraine locked eyes squarely with Cedric.
“Haah….”
Utterly at a loss, she let out a soft, breathy sigh through parted lips.
Cedric’s eyes narrowed.
A flash of light flickered across his blue irises like lightning.
“Lorraine. It seems you have no self-awareness whatsoever.”
“…Huh?”
Now what?
“Every single thing you do drives me to this state.”
…Was I even breathing just now?
Does the whole world get punished like this just for taking a breath?
She nearly sighed again out of sheer exasperation but held it in. Instead, she said,
“Cedric. You’re unwell right now. I think you’re just confused.”
She decided to try calming him again.
“I mean… look. Both your body and your brain are feverish—they’re malfunctioning!”
Malfunctioning?? Was that really the right word for this situation?
Just as that fleeting thought crossed her mind, his eyes—now dark with burning desire—plunged deeply into hers.
“Then I suppose I’m in pain every time I look at you.”
“…Huh? What on earth are you talking about?”
Her wide eyes blinked rapidly.
Her husband, eyes slightly narrowed, slowly inhaled his own hot breath before releasing it.

“Now that I think about it, you may be right—I must have been mistaken.”
So he finally understood a bit?
Just as she was about to release the sigh she’d been holding—
“You haven’t done anything at all. Instead….”
That trailing, hazy sentence filled her with sudden unease.
“…!”
A powerful yank at her waist sent her slender body arching backward like a fragile twig.
Like ocean waves, his golden hair rippled around him.
Tonight, he wouldn’t let her go—ever.
His large hand, as if determined, plunged into her soft hair and cradled the back of her head.
In less than the blink of an eye, she was pulled completely into his firm embrace.
So close that the slightest movement would make their lips meet.
His hot breath seeped from between his teeth, dampening her lips.
Thump-thump. Heartbeats—impossible to tell whose—filled her ears.
Just as she slowly swallowed the breath she’d been unable to release—
“I think I’ve gone mad for you, Lorraine.”
…What? Did he just say what I think he said?
‘Wait a minute. Isn’t this exactly the situation where he’s not supposed to say he’s gone mad over me?’
The moment that thought struck her—
“Mmmph…!”
The hot breath hovering near her lips covered her mouth entirely.
An illicit sensation instantly surged through her body.
Lorraine’s delicate shoulders trembled instinctively.
Like the sun gathering all the world’s heat,
Lorraine, overwhelmed by kisses scorching enough to consume her whole, subtly squeezed her tightly shut eyes.
‘Hey. What am I supposed to do if you suddenly do this to me?’
Her plans were beginning to unravel.
Before being reincarnated into this world, she had been a kind-hearted and righteous doctor.
But a poor, penniless doctor.
With no connections or hometown ties, she’d opened a small private clinic in the countryside.
Most of her patients were poor and destitute—people from society’s lowest economic strata.
They called her an angel.
She’d been happy. Proud to fulfill her role as a physician.
Yet that pride hadn’t filled the emptiness of her own starving life.
Growing up under her father’s violent abuse, as he drowned himself in gambling and alcohol, she’d vowed fiercely to succeed.
That was why she became a doctor.
But the enormous debt her father left behind clung to her life like an indelible brand.
Eventually, she closed her rural clinic and spent four grueling years as an emergency room doctor—a job rumored to be unbearable for more than a year.
One day, as she struggled just to survive.
An incident occurred that made her want to abandon everything as a doctor.
She’d been forced to leave a poor, elderly woman—on the brink of death and rushed into the ER—untended, instead prioritizing treatment for a wealthy family’s son who wasn’t even in critical condition, per the hospital director’s orders.
In the end, the old woman passed away.
And then,
“I quit!”
She resolved to throw it all away.
“Argh! What the hell are you doing?!”
The hospital director’s face, now wearing the doctor’s coat she’d just flung at him, was truly a sight to behold.
“I can’t work another day with filthy people like you who treat others as less than human just because they’re poor!”
She couldn’t endure it any longer.
No—she didn’t want to.

Filled with disillusionment over the four years she’d spent merely surviving, she stormed straight out of the ER.
“Argh! This is so infuriating!!!”
Stomping along, she suddenly stopped and raked both hands wildly through her hair.
After standing blankly on the roadside for a long while, releasing ragged breaths, she let out a bitter laugh.
Now that she’d abandoned everything, she was actually worried about how she’d eat from tomorrow onward.
Was she truly someone who couldn’t be happy even for a single day?
…She couldn’t breathe.
“If I’m going to live like this, I’d rather just die.”
Both her heart and body were utterly exhausted.
A pitiful existence—no one even around to hear her sorrowful whisper.
Tears welled up instantly from sheer despair.
Dragging her weary body and mind down a deserted alleyway,
Flash.
A blindingly bright light stabbed painfully into her eyes.
“…!”
She couldn’t even let out a cry.
Thud!
A violent impact struck her body, followed by searing pain as her flesh tore and ripped.
Her frail form launched into the air.
…The black night sky came into view.
‘Am I going to die like this?’
Twinkle. In that instant, starlight pierced her pupils.
A life unloved from the very moment of birth.
A life rendered unhappy by poverty.
Thus, a lifetime spent being looked down upon by others.
Like a nightmare reel, those dreadful memories flashed past.
In a split second, she clenched her molars tightly.
“In my next life, never! Never again will I live in sorrow. You hear me, you damned world?!”
On the night when starlight fell beautifully from the densely scattered stars across the sky—
the night utterly mismatched to her own life—
it was the final day of her existence.
A bitter, grassy taste spread through her mouth.
Thirst so intense it felt as if her throat were burning.
“…Milady.”
A delicate voice echoed faintly in her ears from somewhere nearby.
‘Is shift change already here? I just want to rest a little longer.’
…I think I’m going to die.
Driven by that unconscious yearning, she clenched her shut eyelids tightly.
‘Anyway, what on earth is this strange grassy taste?’
Just as she was chewing her lips, feeling a prickly sensation as if she’d eaten grass,
“My lady! My lady! Are you awake?”
Amid someone’s earsplitting shriek, as if prepared to burst their eardrums,
‘…Milady?’
She slowly pried open her heavy eyelids, puzzling over that unfamiliar term.
Everything was crystal clear despite having just opened her eyes.
An opulent canopy embroidered with golden thread, and beside it, a marble ceiling so smooth one would slide right off if they tried to climb it.
“My lady. Huh… hic!”
Blinking slowly at the sobbing voice,
‘What… where am I?’
Having firmly imprinted the unfamiliar surroundings into her eyes, she abruptly sat upright.

Her wide eyes frantically scanned the room.
This wasn’t the narrow, sterile ER break room cot, reeking of antiseptic—
she was sitting in a bed that looked like it belonged in a luxury hotel suite.
She stared blankly at the crying girl in maid’s clothing, then slowly narrowed her eyes.
‘Ah! The accident…’
Recalling the blinding light that had pierced her eyes and the powerful impact that had struck her body, she felt a chill run through her.
‘Did I really die? Then where exactly is this…?’
Her violet eyes, darting restlessly, suddenly stopped on one spot.
“…!”
Her pupils surged violently like waves crashing against a shore.
In the princess-style mirror hanging on the wall stood a stunningly beautiful woman.
‘Could that possibly… be me?’
She quickly rubbed her eyes.
Then, opening them even wider, she peered intently into the mirror.
Golden hair shimmering brilliantly down to her waist.
Skin as white and radiant as untouched snow.
And eyes—violet like dyed flower petals—beautiful and luminous.
…Could this possibly be a dream?
Yet everything before her eyes was far too vivid for that.
For a moment, she stared dumbfounded, repeatedly verifying the beautiful woman in the mirror.
Just what on earth was going on?
As her mind scrambled desperately to process the bewildering situation,
“H-hic… My… my lady. Huh… sob.”
Grunting softly through her teeth at the incessant weeping,
She was already mentally overwhelmed—and now this girl in maid’s attire, sniffling beside her, made it even harder to concentrate.
She couldn’t very well tell a stranger to just shut up.
“Um, excuse me…?”
Carefully opening her mouth as she looked into the girl’s tear-filled eyes,
“Yes! My lady!”
The maid answered, her face suddenly alight with both relief and joy at hearing her voice. But then—
“What’s my name?”
At those next words, the maid’s face turned deathly pale.
“My… my lady… h-hic…”
“Stop crying. I just asked what my name is.”
She fixed the maid with a firm gaze, determined not to let the room dissolve into tears again.
The terrified maid swallowed hard.
“Lorraine Roger… milady.”
Then, barely choking back her sobs, she managed to speak.
‘…Lorraine?’
Her violet eyes slowly narrowed.
‘Could it really be that Lorraine—the one I know?’
The name sounded far too familiar.
“My lady, are… are you alright?”
…She wasn’t alright at all.
“…Oh. Oh, yes. I’m fine. I just asked because you were crying so much—I needed to clear my head.”
“…Huh? But my lady, you were so frightened! Huhuhu…”
Could she really be more shocked than I am?
With eyes still reeling from shock, she quietly stared again at the woman named Lorraine in the mirror.
“My lady… Huuuh… I thought you’d passed away! Huuuuh…”
At the maid’s words, her eyelids twitched.

Lorraine… nearly died?
She needed to sort out this situation first.
Slowly pulling her gaze away from the mirror,
‘Since this sobbing girl called me Lorraine, I must really be Lorraine, right?’
She fixed her eyes intently on the maid, who sat with both hands clasped tightly over her chest, tears streaming down her face.
‘What was her name again?’
Lorraine rummaged desperately through her mind.
Gradually widening her eyes, which had been half-lidded like fine threads,
“…Jane?”
She spoke the name that surfaced in her thoughts.
“Yes! My lady! Please, speak to me!”
The maid nearly leaped with joy at hearing her own name.
Yes. That’s right.
She instantly recognized the romance novel she’d been reincarnated into.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
