As dawn broke, the Brelopf mansion was quiet enough to not suspect that a search had been conducted the night before for a suspicious person.

I too was having breakfast and carrying on with my normal routine as if I was oblivious to everything, but my mind was not at the same place.

‘The magic stone bracelet I used to save Askan last night isn’t something anyone can acquire in the market. Only the person who engraves it can use it.’

There was no way the prestigious Brelopf family wouldn’t suspect that I was the one who used the light magic last night. Especially considering my opponent was Zen.

I continuously thought about how to handle the situation if they found out about last night.

Although I had a hunch, Zen’s visit came sooner than I expected. He showed up at my room before the afternoon and spoke in a soft voice.

“Miss Tanashia, the lord is looking for you.”

As soon as I heard those words, I realized that what was bound to happen had finally arrived.

I nodded my head without hesitation and stood up from my spot.

“Where is my father right now?”

“He is waiting in his office.”

“Okay.”

As I started walking, Zen took the lead as if he had been waiting for this moment and guided me to the office where Orland was.

Zen didn’t utter a word until we reached the office. I knew he was a man of few words because I had read the novel, but it was clear he belonged to the same category as Askan.

While I was lost in thought, we arrived in front of the office.

Knock knock, Zen knocked on the door and reported.

“Lord, Miss Tanashia has arrived.”

“Let her in.”

With Orland’s permission, Zen opened the door and respectfully greeted me.

“Please enter, miss.”

“Thank you.”

As I stepped through the opened door, I could see the inside of the office. The sight of documents piled up on the desk was exhausting just by looking at it.

Orland, who had been looking down at the documents, turned his gaze to me. Just making eye contact with him made my heart flutter because of his sharp gaze.

“Just sit for a moment. I will finish what I’m looking at and leave.”

“Yes, father.”

I obediently sat on the sofa. It was best to just do as told in this situation.

As I quietly scanned the office, Orland, who had finished his work after a while, came and sat opposite me.

I could feel a sense of fatigue from him, which seemed to be due to lack of sleep.

“Zen saw a suspicious person last night, but lost them because someone used light magic. Do you have anything to say about this?”

Orland gave me a chance to explain first.

I did not miss that opportunity and took it promptly.

“Yes. I was the one who used the light magic outside the mansion last night.”

“I heard from Matella that she gave you the magic stone bracelet, but it was not engraved yet……”

“My teacher gave me a homework assignment to disassemble it and put in a new magic formula. I was just trying to see if it worked properly.”

“You haven’t been studying magic engineering for long.”

“It’s the field I chose. I’m having so much fun that I’m immersed in it.”

At my words, a smile that he couldn’t hide appeared on Orland’s face. There was no father who wasn’t proud of his daughter studying hard.

“That’s good to hear.”

“But was there a suspicious person in the mansion last night?”

I looked at Orland as if I knew nothing.

He seemed to examine me for a moment, but soon shook his head and answered.

“It doesn’t seem like it. There were no signs of intrusion or escape.”

“Then maybe he mistook someone from the mansion.”

At my words, Orland just looked at me. It wasn’t so much doubt as it was a nudge to continue speaking.

I thought this was my chance and brought up the excuse I had been thinking of.

“I wanted to try out the light magic last night, but I thought I would wake people up if I did it in my room, so I went outside. But it was so dark that I called for my attendant but couldn’t find him. Could that be the reason?”

At that time, Zen saw Askan’s silhouette. He must have already figured out that the person was not an adult but a boy.

Rather than denying everything, it was the best choice to admit some of the facts and steer the incident in a different direction.

What I wanted to hide last night was not Askan’s identity, but the fact that Askan was trying to escape from the mansion.

Fortunately, thanks to dodging with light magic, the luggage that Askan had been holding was not exposed. If he made excuses well enough, there was room to get away.

A sigh of relief in his heart as Orland acknowledged.

“Right?”

“But this is where you and Noxia live, not anyone else. We have to ensure safety.”
