Erina sat crouched down, staring blankly at her name carved into the stone mountain.

No one could possibly know how gratified she felt that the family name following hers was not Iols.

Ever since that moment she had resolved to possess everything and laid her plans, Erina had been unable to relax even for an instant.

She had stayed awake through the night, standing on the terrace and gazing endlessly toward the mansion’s entrance, terrified that Rose—who was staying at the mansion with Feyron—might leave early and arrive here before the original plot dictated.

Contrary to her fearful imaginings, the name beautifully engraved on the stone wall was Erina Medelia.

This mine, so precious that its mere naming bestowed astronomical value and guaranteed protection from both the imperial court and the clergy, was now truly hers.

In a world where she had once possessed nothing, she now had something wholly her own.

From behind Erina, who was quietly savoring the sight, a loud voice suddenly rang out.

“Countess! A-Are you all right?!”

She saw Revil running clumsily toward her, clutching an umbrella as tall as he was.

At the sight, Erina found herself smiling without even realizing it.

It felt as if the tension, which had not eased even for a moment since yesterday, had finally snapped loose.

“Revil.”

“Yes!”

Her heart tingled warmly at the genuine concern in his voice—a feeling she hadn’t experienced even once since her parents had passed away.

“Thank you.”

Still crouched, Erina smiled brightly as she spoke, causing Revil—who still clung tightly to the umbrella—to blush deeply.

“Can you see it?”

Erina’s eyes were fixed on the spot where the ancient script had vanished and her name now stood engraved.

Understanding the meaning behind her words, Revil quickly nodded up and down and answered with an excited voice.

“Yes, I see it! It’s truly amazing—just moments ago, the inscription suddenly changed to your name, Countess!”

“You know, this mountain—this mine—has chosen me as its owner. Not that woman, but me. I can hardly believe it.”

Whether Revil sensed the complex emotions woven into her words or not, he pressed his lips tightly shut.

“Want to go together?”

More than anything else, it was the word “together” that made Revil’s heart race.

He knew well enough—even if only from her perspective—that he was likely seen as an eyesore.

Having been sent to an orphanage early in life and surviving solely by reading people’s moods, Revil couldn’t not understand that.

Yet, she had always shown him warmth.

She never tried to take what was his, nor did she raise her hand against him like others might have.

She had helped him in difficult times and reached out her hand to him.

He couldn’t not understand—even now, her kindness felt so warm it brought tears to his eyes.

“Yes, I’ll go.”

“Give it here.”

Erina reached out her hand toward Revil, asking for the umbrella.

“I’ll carry it!”

“I haven’t the strength to stand up right now. I need it as a cane, at least.”

“Oh…”

His crestfallen expression was so endearing that Erina couldn’t suppress her laughter.

Though her legs remained weak from released tension, Erina tightened her grip on the umbrella and pulled herself up.

A warm breeze, as pleasant as the day’s weather, gently wrapped around both Revil and Erina before drifting past.

Buoyed by elation, Erina held the umbrella like a cane in her left hand and extended her right toward Revil.

“Let’s go.”

Holding her small but firm hand, they walked together and stood before the entrance to the mana stone mine.

The entrance was so vast that the two figures standing before it looked tiny in comparison.

As Erina stepped forward, the oval rim of the entrance glowed brilliantly white, as if bound by a luminous band, and the interior simultaneously lit up as well.

Beyond what appeared to be a short, artificially made corridor, the jagged stone walls shimmered with a radiant glow.

Everything in sight was mana stone.

Unlike other ores, mana stone held magical power in every fragment—even the tiniest scrap—leaving nothing to discard.

Erina noticed a fist-sized stone lying at the very end of the corridor, right before the glowing wall.

Entranced, she picked up the mana stone.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

Though rough and uneven, the translucent stone held a soft violet hue, and within it, her name was inscribed in gold.

[ Erina Medelia ]

This was the very first mana stone Rose had picked up upon entering the mana stone mine in the original story.

In the original, that mana stone had borne a pale pink tint with her name written in green—colors symbolizing Rose.

Unlike that, this stone—so vividly proclaiming itself as Erina’s own through its distinct hue—filled her with rapture.

Tucking the tightly clutched mana stone into her handbag, Erina turned around.

“Let’s head back, Revil.”

Now, Erina truly believed it—she had changed every bit of this reality herself.

The realization filled her with such profound satisfaction that her heart swelled with warmth.

Leaving the mine with Revil, Erina turned once more to gaze intently at the spot where her name was engraved before finally turning away.

It felt as though the time had come to carry out all the plans she’d silently held close.

But soon after, an unexpected variable arose—something Erina hadn’t foreseen.

“Huh…”

She felt Revil nervously shifting his feet beside her.

Turning away from her satisfaction, the two exited the mine and returned to the spot where they’d originally boarded the carriage.

The sun was already setting—it seemed evening had nearly arrived.

But the carriage had not come.

In her single-minded determination to claim the mine, Erina had overlooked one crucial fact.

The coachman driving the Iols family carriage was also Feyron’s man—and a servant who welcomed Rose.

Perhaps the sleepless night, spent wide awake until dawn, had clouded her judgment so severely that she’d failed to secure the most essential detail.

According to her original plan, she should have rented a public carriage instead of relying on the Count Iols family’s own.

Erina had no choice but to admit her mistake.

Though this village belonged to the Count Iols’s territory, it sat at the very edge—a place seldom visited by anyone.

Before Rose discovered the mana stone mine in the original story, outsiders rarely came here—perhaps once a week, if at all.

Only later, thanks to the mine, would roads be developed and the village flourish—but not yet.

“What should we do…?”

It seemed the carriage wouldn’t be coming.

Whether it was due to Feyron’s orders, Rose’s malicious scheming, or the coachman’s warped loyalty, she couldn’t know for sure—but she could guess the carriage simply wasn’t coming.

“Let’s go into the village.”

Taking Revil’s hand, Erina entered the village without lowering her guard.

A woman who clearly looked noble and a well-dressed child would easily become targets for crime.

Not knowing who lived in this village, Erina worried deeply.

Afraid she might have endangered the boy by bringing him along, she tightened her grip on Revil’s hand.

As soon as they passed the village entrance, fewer than ten houses lined both sides of the narrow path.

“Oh my.”

Suddenly, a middle-aged woman emerging from the second house on the right looked startled to see the two newcomers.

Erina instinctively flinched and turned toward her.

“What brings you to this village? Ah—are you with the group from that house at the far end?”

“I’m sorry, but the carriage that was supposed to pick us up never arrived.”

“Oh dear.”

The woman wiped her damp hands on the apron tied around her waist and approached Erina.

Her kind, welcoming face made Erina want to relax—but she steeled herself and stayed alert.

“I thought you must be with that noble who usually comes around this time.”

So, a noble occasionally visited this village.

That actually worked in her favor.

If the carriage truly never came, she could simply mention her family name and ride back with them.

“Oh goodness, look at me—I left the food on the stove! Oh, and you probably haven’t eaten yet either.”

With a warm, cheerful smile, the middle-aged woman quickly spoke again, paused only briefly in thought, then immediately invited Erina and Revil into her home.

“I don’t have much prepared, but would you like to eat? I always cook too much—my portions are just too generous.”

Erina hesitated for a moment.

But faced with the sudden invitation from a stranger, the sky growing ever darker, and the child holding her hand while constantly glancing around anxiously, she knew she couldn’t afford to hesitate any longer.

“Then, if it’s no trouble, could we possibly stay the night? I’ll gladly compensate you.”

The middle-aged woman, who had been studying Erina closely, beamed and nodded vigorously.

“Yes, of course.”

“Honey! What’s going on? Come inside already!”

The front door swung open abruptly, and a man who appeared to be her husband stepped out.

“Oh… uh…”

The middle-aged man looked at Erina and was instantly struck speechless.

His flushed face clearly showed he was taken aback by her striking beauty.

“This woman is the real deal.”

The woman gave the man a sharp slap on the back and then gently guided Erina and Revil into the house with careful kindness.

“Yikes! This lady really is the real deal!”

“Just ignore that man and come in with me. Strange—I suddenly felt like cooking meat today. I guess it was fate, bringing such honored guests!”

Ignoring her husband, who was hopping around clutching his back, the woman led the two inside and seated them at a small round dining table meant for four.

“Please, make yourselves comfortable.”

“I’ll be right back.”

After hurried greetings and last-minute preparations, they all gathered around the cozy table.

“Oh my, goodness—I just realized I haven’t even told you my name. I’m Susan.”

Her warm smile, peeking through the rising steam of freshly cooked food, even eased the tension of the usually wary Revil.

“I’m John.”

When the man, who appeared to be her husband, also gave his name, Erina paused for a moment before answering politely.

“I’m Lina. Thank you sincerely for inviting us despite our sudden arrival.”

Choosing not to reveal her full name, Erina addressed them courteously.

Susan and John nodded in understanding at Erina’s omission of her surname and urged her to start eating.

“You came with your younger brother, I see.”

“Ah… yes, that’s right.”

Erina carefully answered so as not to show discomfort, and Revil, sensing her intent, quietly focused on his meal.

“How did you happen to come all the way out to such a remote place?”

“I just wanted a change of mood, so I brought my brother and wandered wherever my heart led—and it brought us here.”

To Susan’s question, Erina borrowed the exact excuse Rose had used with others in the original story.

“My goodness—what a truly remarkable coincidence! And what’s your name, dear?”

Susan pushed a distant dish slightly closer to Revil as she asked.

“…Bill.”

Revil discreetly omitted the first syllable of his name, just as Erina had done, to conceal his true identity.

Of course, no one here would recognize Revil, the orphan—but Erina found his thoughtful effort to follow her lead quite admirable.

“That’s right, Bill. Eat plenty now.”

During the cheerful meal, both Erina and Revil finally relaxed their stiff shoulders and enjoyed the food.

Though different from the lavish, delicious meals served at the count’s mansion, this simple, wholesome fare warmed their hearts.

Just then, someone suddenly knocked on the door.

The door opened, and someone entered.

“Susan. John.”

At the sound of that deep, pleasant voice and the sight of the man who appeared, Erina shot up from her seat in shock.

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
