A servant rushed over in a hurry and bowed his head in front of Sicar.
“We…we told him not to, but the child thought he needed to do things like this to live in the mansion…”
Ah, Kian…
An episode flashed across my mind where Kian, living in the house of the Redoks, was carrying water fearing that he might be kicked out. I wonder if Sicar recalled that part, he glanced at me once and nodded. It meant that we were back on track with the original.
“Listen well. Kian is going to be my child from now on. So, if that child is found doing such menial work again, you all will not be able to escape punishment.”
All the servants bowed their heads with tense faces and responded.
“Yes, Your Grace!”
The atmosphere of the Duke’s residence became bleak at Sicar’s harsh rebuke. I whispered lowly to get out of that icy place.
“I’ll go to Kian.”
Sicar nodded as if he understood.

First, I told Andrea not to send Kian’s clothes directly to his room but to leave them in front of the door, then I found Kian’s room.
I was about to knock, but I carefully opened the door and entered. Kian was sitting on the bed with a fallen face, he got up when he saw me.
“No, stay seated on the bed. I will come to you.”
“I’m sorry, ma’am. I wanted to be useful… but I think I only got others into trouble… I think the Duke will probably drive me out.”
Ah, he was so downhearted because he thought he was going to be driven out.
“Kian, you are a child. A child doesn’t need to work from now to be useful. So, let the servants do what they have to do.”
Kian had a puzzled expression.
His father, Ballije, had taught him that he had to be useful to avoid being rejected anywhere in case he had to live alone after his father’s death.
So, apart from being useful, he wouldn’t know how to live as a person.

“What you need to do is to eat well and grow up healthy, just like other children.”
“Me growing up well?”
“Yes. And Kian. There is something I want to tell you.”
Kian, perhaps because he was just scolded, had a terrified face as if I was going to drive him out too.
And I couldn’t open my mouth a few times, trying to say something then stopping, and again trying to say something then stopping.
Because of Sicar’s stern warning, I had to tell Kian that I was now his biological mother, but I couldn’t say it.
A kindergarten teacher who teaches that it’s bad to lie to a child, I had to tell a lie that goes against nature to a child, and that lie didn’t easily come out.
Of course, I wanted to become his real mother, comfort Kian’s heart, and rescue the child from the nightmare, but the lie didn’t easily come out to this young child.
‘Yes. Let’s not lie to Kian.’
I just need to tell others that he’s my biological son.

I, with a solemn look in my eyes, holding the hand of Kian who was scared not knowing what was going to come out of my mouth, said.
“Kian. We want to adopt you.”
Maybe he never thought of this. Kian, looking very flustered, opened his big eyes even wider and asked.
“Adopt, you say?”
“If you’re okay with it, we want to take care of you.”
“Ah… But… I… I’m not an orphan… Uh… I have a mother.”
It seemed that Kian, indeed, missed his mother, whom he despised but also yearned for. It was more pitiful to think about Kian, who always carried the mother he didn’t even know in his heart.
That’s right, I couldn’t deceive this angellike child by pretending to be his biological mother. I firmly grasped Kian’s hand.
“Can’t I be your mother until your biological mother who gave birth to you appears?”
“Becoming my mother? Why, why?”

“How can I not want to adopt a beautiful child like you? And we thought we wanted to protect you.”
This wasn’t only because of Sicar’s threats. I sincerely wanted to protect Kian. Although my favorite character in this novel was Lucy, I was very fond of the protagonists Kian and Lloyd.
“Me, really?”
“Yes. But will you make just one promise with me? Think of me as your real mother.”
“Huh?”
“If anyone asks, you have to say that I’m your biological mother. That way, people won’t ignore you. I can’t stand to see my son being ignored.”
“I, I become your own child?”
“Even though we didn’t share blood, I think we can become closer than that.”
Being the mother of the protagonist in this world was also an honor for me.
“Of course, if you don’t like it, we won’t adopt you.”

However, I knew. Kian, who was thirsty for adult love, would never refuse this offer.
How much Kian was envious of the twins in the original work. How much he wanted to have a family.
Kian cautiously brought his hands together and seemed to be cautious as he asked.
“Then, you… Really my, uh… Becoming a mother?”
“Correct. So now, call me mom.”
No sooner had his eyes drooped than Kian’s eyes widened again.
“Uh, call you mom?”
Kian only called his mother when he had a nightmare or was sick. Would he be able to easily call out the name “mother”, a name he had never called before?
“Kian. If you’re uncomfortable, you don’t have to call……”
“Uh, mom…!”

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
